On August 5th 2020, Satoshi’s Angels hosted an AMA for CoinEx on “How BCH and Avalanche Are Bringing Financial Freedom to 6 Billion People” on a Chinese platform Bihu. During the 100-minute event, Haipo Yang of ViaBTC and CoinEx, and Emin Gun Sirer of AVA Labs shared their in-depth views on such topics as different consensus mechanisms, community governance, IPFS, Defi. And Haipo explained why he wants to fork BCH. This is the full text.
You can check out the full AMA here (mostly in Chinese with some English translation).

Cindy Wang (Satoshi’s Angels): There are news saying that you are to fork BCH. Is it a marketing makeover? Are you serious about it?
Haipo Yang: It’s definitely not a marketing makeover. But the details are not decided yet.
Over the past three years, the BCH community has gone through multiple discussions from reducing block time, changing mining algorithms, adding smart contracts, etc. But none of these disputes have been well settled.
BCH is a big failure in terms of governance. A lack of good governance has made it fall in disorder. It is too decentralized to make progress.
You may know that the first BCH block was mined by ViaBTC. And we gave a lot of support to it indeed. But we didn’t dominate the fork. The Chinese community in particular thought I had a lot of influence, but it was not true.
I think the whole community is very dissatisfied with Bitcoin ABC, but it is difficult to replace them or change the status quo. So I am thinking of creating a new branch of BCH. The idea is still in early stage. I welcome anyone interested to participate and discuss it with me.
Wang: Professor Emin, what’s your attitude to fork? Do you think it’s a good timing to fork BCH?
Emin Gun Sirer: I am a big fan of BCH. It adheres to the original vision of Satoshi Nakamoto. I like the technical roadmap of BCH. But just like what Haipo mentioned, BCH lacks a good governance mechanism. There are always something that can cause BCH community to divide itself.
But I think it’s not enough to just have a good governance mechanism. There are many good proposals in the community but failed to be adopted in the end. I think BCH needs social leadership to encourage discussion when there are new proposals.
Wang: We are all curious to know How Avalanche got its name?
I know that Avalanche doesn’t mean well in Chinese. But in English, it’s a very powerful word. Avalanche represents a series of algorithms piling together like a mountain. When decisions slowly form, the ball (nodes in the network) on top of the mountain starts going down the hill on one side, and it gets bigger and bigger, and like an avalanche and it becomes unstoppable, making the transaction final.
Wang: Prof. Emin, I know that you are a big blocker. Have you ever considered implementing Avalanche based on BCH? Why create another chain?
Sirer: Of course I considered that. Satoshi Nakamoto consensus is wonderful, but the proof-of-work mechanism and Nakamoto consensus base protocols have some shortcomings, such as network latency, and it is hard to scale. Avalanche, instead, is totally different, and is the new biggest breakthrough in the past 45 years. It is flexible, fast, and scalable. I’d love to implement BCH on top of avalanche in the future, to make BCH even better by making 0-conf transactions much more secure.
Wang: As an old miner, why did CoinEx Chain choose to “abandon” POW, and turn to POS mechanism?
Haipo: Both POW and POS consensus algorithms have their own advantages. POW is not just a consensus algorithm, but also a more transparent and open distribution method of digital currency. Anyone can participate in it through mining.
POW is fairer. For a POS-based network, participants must have coins. For example, you need to invest ICO projects to obtain coins. But developers can get a lot of coins almost for free. In addition, POW is more open. Anyone can participate without holding tokens. For example, as long as you have a computer and mining rigs, you can participate in mining. Openness and fairness are two great features of POW. POS is more advanced, safe and efficient.
POS is jointly maintained by the token holders, and there is no problem of 51% attacks. Those who hold tokens are more inclined to protect the network than to destroy the network for their own interests. To disrupt the network, you need to buy at least two-thirds of the token, which is very difficult to achieve. And when you actually hold so many coins, it’s barely possible for you to destroy the network.
POW has the problem of 51% attack. For example, ETC just suffered the 51% attack on August 3. And the cost to do that is very low. It can be reorganized with only tens of thousands of dollars. This is also a defect of POW.
In addition, in terms of TPS and block speed, POS can achieve second-level speed and higher TPS. Therefore, CoinEx Chain chose POS because it can bring a faster transaction experience. This is very important for decentralized exchanges. Both POW and POS have their own advantages. It’s a matter of personal choice. When choosing a consensus mechanism, the choice must be made according to the characteristics of the specific project.

Wang: Ethereum is switching to ETH 2.0. If they succeed, do you think it will lead the next bull market?
Sirer: If Ethereum 2.0 can be realized, it must be a huge success.
But I doubt it can be launched anytime soon considering that it has been constantly delayed. And even if it comes out, I am not so sure if it will address the core scaling problem. And the main technology in Ethereum 2.0 is sharding. Sharding technology divides the Ethereum networks into small parallel groups, but I think what will happen is everyone wants to be in the same “shard” so the sharding advantages might not be realizable in Ethereum 2.0.
Avalanche supports Ethereum’s virtual machine, and Avalanche can realize 1 second level confirmation, while with sharding finalizing confirmation takes 5–6 seconds at best. Avalanche approach to make Ethereum scale is superior to Ethereum 2.0. There are many big players behind Ethereum 2.0, and I wish them success. But I believe that Avalanche will be the fastest and best Smart Contract platform in the crypto space, and it is compatible with Ethereum.
Wang: Why is Avalanche a real breakthrough?
Sirer: Avalanche is fundamentally different from previous consensus mechanisms. It’s very fast with TPS surpasses 6500, which is three times that of VISA. Six confirmations can be achieved in one second. Compared with the POW mechanism of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash, Avalanche’s participation threshold is very low. It allows multiple virtual machines to be built on the Avalanche protocol.
Avalanche is not created to compete with Bitcoin or fiat currencies such as the US dollar and RMB. It’s not made to compete with Ethereum, which is defined as the “world’s computer”. Avalanche is positioned to be an asset issuance platform to tokenize assets in the real world.
Wang: How do you rank the importance of community, development, governance, and technology to a public chain?
Sirer: These four are like the legs of a table. Every foot is very important. The table cannot stand without strong support.
A good community needs to be open to welcome developers and people. Good governance is especially important, to figure out what users need and respect their voices. Development needs to be decentralized. Avalanche has developers all over the world. And it has big companies building on top of Avalanche.
Yang: From a long-term perspective, I think governance is the most important thing, which is the same as running a company.
In the long run, technology is not important. Blockchain technology is developed based on an open source softwares that are free to the community. Community is also not the most important factor.
I think the most important thing is governance. Decentralization is more about technical. For example, Bitcoin, through a decentralized network method, ensures the openness and transparency of data assets, and the data on the chain cannot be tampered with, ensuring that the total amount of coins has a fixed upper limit.
But at the governance level, all coins are centralized at some degree. For example, BCH developers can decide to modify the protocol. In a sense, it is the same as managing a company.
Historically, the reasons for the success and failure of companies all stem from bad governance. For example, Apple succeeded based on Steve Jobs’s charisma, leadership and the pursuit of user experience. When Jobs was kicked out, Apple suffered great losses. After Jobs returned, he made Apple great again.
Issues behind Bitmain is also about governance. Simply put, governance requires leaders who have a longer-term vision and are more capable of coordinating and balancing the resources and interests of all parties to lead the community.
In the blockchain world, many people focus on technology. In fact, technology is not enough to make great products. User experience is most important. Users don’t care about the blockchain technology itself, but more concerned about whether it is easy to use and whether it can solve my problem.
We need to figure out how to deliver a product like Apple. The pursuit of user experience is also governance in nature. And governance itself lies in the soul of key leaders in the community.
Realize tokenization of assets in.
https://preview.redd.it/14jf1bvcaxf51.jpg?width=1082&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c312912142c38de986f42912086e205354162190
Wang: Speaking of asset tokenization, I would like to ask Haipo, do you think the market for assets on the chain is big?
Yang: It must be very big. We need to see which assets can be tokenized.
Assets that can be tokenized are standardized assets, sush as currencies and securities.
  1. In terms of currency, Tether has issued over 10 billion U.S. dollars. Many people think that’s too much. But I think this market is underestimated. The market for stablecoins in the future must be hundreds of billions or even trillions, especially after the release of Facebook’s Libra. Even US dollar might be issued based on the blockchain in the future.
At present, the settlement of USD currency is through the SWIFT system. But the SWIFT system itself is only a clearing network, a messaging system, not a settlement network. It takes a long time for clearing and settlement, and it is not reliable. But both USDT and USDC can quickly realize cross-border transfers in seconds and realize asset delivery. Even sovereign currencies are likely to be issued on the blockchain. I believe RMB also has such a plan.
  1. Equity and securities markets are the largest market. But they have strict requirements for market access.
Whether a stock is listed on A-shares or in the American markets, it’s hard to obtain them. I believe that the blockchain can completely release the demand through decentralization. It can allow any tiny company or even a project to issue, circulate and finance a token.
There may be only tens of thousands of stocks currently traded globally. There are also tens of thousands of tokens in the crypto space. I believe that millions or more of assets will be traded and circulated in the future. This can only be realized through decentralized technology and organization.
The market for assets tokenization will be huge. And at present, the entire blockchain technology is still very primitive. Bitcoin and Ethereum only have a few or a dozen TPS, which is far from meeting market demand. This is why CoinEx is committed to building a decentralized Dex public chain.
Wang: Avalanche’s paper was first published on IPFS. What do you think of IPFS?
Sirer: I personally like IPFS very much. It is a decentralized storage solution.
Yang: There is no doubt that IPFS solves the problem of decentralized storage, and can be robust in the blockchain world, and can replace HPPT services. But there are still three problems:
  1. IPFS is not for ordinary users. Everybody needs BCH and BTC, but only developers need IPFS, which is a relatively niche market;
  2. IPFS is more expensive than traditional storage solutions, which further reduces its practicality. In order to achieve decentralization, more copies must be stored, and more hardware devices must be consumed. In the end, these costs will be on to users.
  3. There may be compliance issues. If you use IPFS to store sensitive information, such as info from WikiLeaks, it may end up threatening national security. I doubt that decentralized storage and decentralized public chains can survive under the joint pressure of global governments.
The IPFS project solves certain problems. But from the perspective of application prospects, I am pessimistic.
Wang: What do you think of Defi?
Yang: I want to talk about the concept first.
Broadly speaking, the entire blockchain industry is DeFi in nature. Blockchain is to realize the circulation of currency, equity, and asset value through decentralization.
So in a broad sense, blockchain itself is DeFi. In a narrow sense, DeFi is a financial agreement based on smart contracts. DeFi, through smart contracts, can build applications more flexibly. For example, before we could only use Bitcoin to transfer and pay. Now with smart contracts, flexible functions such as lending, exchange, mortgage , etc. are available. The entire blockchain industry is gradually evolving under the conditions of DeFi. DeFi will definitely get greater development in the future.
Sirer: I think Defi will definitely have a huge impact. DeFi is not only an innovation in the cryptocurrency field, but also an innovation in the financial field. Wall Street companies have stagnated for years with no innovation. Avalanche fits different DeFi needs, including performance and compliance. In the future, not only will Wall Street simply adopt DeFi, but DeFi will grow into a huge market that will eventually replace the traditional financial system.
Questions from the community:
1. How does Avalanche integrate with DeFi?
Sirer: At present, all DeFi applications on Avalanche have surpassed Ethereum. What can be achieved on Ethereum can be achieved on Avalanche with better user experience. We are currently connecting with popular DeFi projects such as Compound and MakerDao to add part of or all of their functions.
At present, Avalanche is working on decentralized exchange (DEX). The current DEXs are limited by speed and performance but when they are built on top of Avalanche it will be real-time and very fast.
2. How many developers does BCH have?
Yang: I think it does not matter how many developers there are. What matters is what should be developed. I watched Jobs’ video the other day, and it inspired me a lot. We are not piecing together technology to see what technology can do. It’s we figure out what we want first and then we use the technology we need.
The entire blockchain community worship developers. Such as they call Vitalik “V God”. It’s not necessary to treat developers as wizards. Developers are programmers, and I myself is also a programmer.
ViaBTC has a development team of over 100 people, including core members from Copernicus (a dev team formerly belonged to Bitmain). Technically we are very confident to build faster, stabler, and better user experience products.

OneSwap: An Upgraded Version of UniSwap! An Ace DEX in the DeFi Ecosystem

Powerful DeFi

DeFi, or decentralized finance, represents the hottest topic in the blockchain industry and Ethereum ecosystem this year. According to data from DeFi Market Cap, the total market value of the top 100 projects in the DeFi ecosystem has exceeded US$6.9 billion, a tenfold increase in just three months. DeFi, which rose to fame in 2019, eventually regains its popularity in 2020.
Judged from another perspective, there have been signs for its popularity overnight. At the beginning of 2019, all major exchanges announced that they would enter the DEX field to define the trading model of cryptocurrencies in a brand new way. As one of the three major parts of DeFi, DEX has grown steadily in the cryptocurrency market, and has become the best choice for blockchain entrepreneurs to seek long-term development as centralized exchanges are confined to a bottleneck. Even though research shows that DEX contributed less than 1% to the overall transaction volume last year, there have appeared hundreds of new DEX platforms in the market for the past year.
Driven by DeFi, the trading volume of DEX in 2020 will grow to nearly US$5.1 billion. That is six times as much as the figure in 2019, with an increase of US$1.5 billion in June alone. In particular, Uniswap, the star DEX in the DeFi ecosystem, has outperformed its counterparts by transaction volume, with a daily transaction volume of more than US$100 million.
UniSwap is a token transaction protocol on Ethereum. It is a set of contracts deployed to the Ethereum network. All transactions are carried out on the chain. Anyone can exchange and withdraw tokens in UniSwap without registration or identification. UniSwap adopts automated market making (AMM), so users can buy and sell orders quickly without pending orders; at the same time, users can freely list coins and create trading pairs on Uniswap, and even get a share of the transaction fee as liquidity providers for tokens.
Once launched, UniSwap has been favored by the community and project developers. The super coins that may generate profits 100 times the cost as well as its efficient, easy-to-use product experience have attracted a large number of users who used to struggle in centralized exchanges for a long time. UniSwap has become the most popular DEX platform overnight, and the slippage rate of its mainstream DeFi project is even far lower than the figure of the first-tier exchanges.

Hidden dangers under madness

No listing fees, no delisting risks, and no restrictions at all.
In June alone, more than a dozen of super coins that may generate profits 100 times or even 1,000 times costs have been listed on UniSwap. Yet under such prosperity, crisis is simmering. Among the numerous projects, both good and bad, the platform is full of swindlers deceiving many investors; in addition, in spite of UniSwap’s efficient trading, the automated market making (AMM) lacks support of order book. All purchases on UniSwap are subject to the prices set thereon only, which greatly confines user’s transaction demands; what’s worse, UniSwap does not issue its own value tokens, and UniSwap’s liquidity providers only get the income from the transaction fee, leaving themselves risking losses for market making under unilateral conditions.
In general, UniSwap has been successful temporarily compared to other DEX. However, as the DeFi ecosystem gradually moves toward a broader market, its defects will hinder liquidity providers from gaining profits and users from having their diverse transaction needs met.

Upgraded UniSwap

With the globalization of the DeFi ecosystem, a DEX that can undertake thousands of projects and offer an excellent trading experience is needed in the market. After conducting in-depth research on all DEX products in the DeFi ecosystem, the OneSwap team combined user needs and market trends to create a fully decentralized transaction protocol on smart contracts—OneSwap, as we know it.
On July 29, 2020, OneSwap was officially launched on its official website.
OneSwap is a fully decentralized exchange protocol on Ethereum, with permission-free token listing and automated market making.
(I)Combination of automated market making and limit order
Similar to UniSwap, OneSwap applies the automated market making (AMM). Users can establish liquidity pools without permission, and make markets through automated algorithms. Liquidity providers can provide liquidity reserves for promising tokens. OneSwap will exchange two ERC20 Tokens in the liquidity pool based on a constant product algorithm, and the commissions obtained will be distributed to liquidity providers. Unlike UniSwap, OneSwap supports liquidity mining simultaneously. Through liquidity mining on OneSwap, users provide liquidity for the transaction token pool. For example, to provide liquidity for the ETH-AMPL pool, the liquidity provider can deposit ETH and AMPL tokens in a certain proportion, and then, according to the rules of the platform, gain both tokens and transaction fees on OneSwap.
In addition, in order to meet the diverse transaction needs of users, OneSwap will support the order book while adopting the AMM.
OneSwap's order book will be matched on the chain, which is different from the off-chain matching and on-chain clearing modes of other platforms. Since there is no centralized off-chain order book, OneSwap allows users to separately place orders at multiple different front ends developed by various vendors, without suspending its services due to failure in any vendor’s server. Based on the order book, users will not be forced to trade at the price set by the platform but buy or sell orders at a fixed price by themselves. That will be more flexible.
(II) Permissionless token listing and trading pair creation
For a decentralized trading platform, its restrictions determine how much freedom it can offer.
Unlike most pseudo-DEXs, OneSwap supports permission-free token creation, listing, and transactions without any listing fees. Users can trade on OneSwap with all Tokens that meet the ERC20 standard. In the past, small and medium-sized entrepreneurial teams needed to pay a large amount of listing fees apart from expenses for daily operation and project promotion. That was risky for them as it might make them unable to survive due to lack of funds. Fortunately, OneSwap can meet their needs including token listing, storage, transaction, and market making.
(III)Product experience more similar to CEX
The product design and functions of DEX on the current market are relatively simple, yet the threshold for use is high. Considering that, OneSwap develops a feature-rich, and easy-to-use operation interface based on users’ trading habits. Related functions such as K-line, depth map, and transaction history can even be expected.
OneSwap refines and upgrades the advantages of major platforms on the basis of UniSwap, Curve, and Balancer, and combines the product design of the CEX platform to create a more powerful UniSwap. We are confident that OneSwap will bring fresh surprises to the DeFi ecosystem and community.

Booming Ethereum

In response to the DeFi rush and the Ethereum 2.0 beacon chain, Ethereum has maintained an upward trend for six consecutive days and the price has kept rising from US$200 to a new high of US$330.
Driven by Ethereum, the digital currency market has remained prosperous overall as the Bitcoin value broke US$11,000. Overnight, the crypto community has got rid of the March 12 nightmare, as if it had regained the bull market in 2017.

Where is Bitcoin Going and When?

Where is Bitcoin Going and When?

The Federal Reserve and the United States government are pumping extreme amounts of money into the economy, already totaling over $484 billion. They are doing so because it already had a goal to inflate the United States Dollar (USD) so that the market can continue to all-time highs. It has always had this goal. They do not care how much inflation goes up by now as we are going into a depression with the potential to totally crash the US economy forever. They believe the only way to save the market from going to zero or negative values is to inflate it so much that it cannot possibly crash that low. Even if the market does not dip that low, inflation serves the interest of powerful people.
The impending crash of the stock market has ramifications for Bitcoin, as, though there is no direct ongoing-correlation between the two, major movements in traditional markets will necessarily affect Bitcoin. According to the Blockchain Center’s Cryptocurrency Correlation Tool, Bitcoin is not correlated with the stock market. However, when major market movements occur, they send ripples throughout the financial ecosystem which necessary affect even ordinarily uncorrelated assets.
Therefore, Bitcoin will reach X price on X date after crashing to a price of X by X date.

Stock Market Crash

The Federal Reserve has caused some serious consternation with their release of ridiculous amounts of money in an attempt to buoy the economy. At face value, it does not seem to have any rationale or logic behind it other than keeping the economy afloat long enough for individuals to profit financially and politically. However, there is an underlying basis to what is going on which is important to understand in order to profit financially.
All markets are functionally price probing systems. They constantly undergo a price-discovery process. In a fiat system, money is an illusory and a fundamentally synthetic instrument with no intrinsic value – similar to Bitcoin. The primary difference between Bitcoin is the underlying technology which provides a slew of benefits that fiat does not. Fiat, however, has an advantage in being able to have the support of powerful nation-states which can use their might to insure the currency’s prosperity.
Traditional stock markets are composed of indices (pl. of index). Indices are non-trading market instruments which are essentially summaries of business values which comprise them. They are continuously recalculated throughout a trading day, and sometimes reflected through tradable instruments such as Exchange Traded Funds or Futures. Indices are weighted by market capitalizations of various businesses.
Price theory essentially states that when a market fails to take out a new low in a given range, it will have an objective to take out the high. When a market fails to take out a new high, it has an objective to make a new low. This is why price-time charts go up and down, as it does this on a second-by-second, minute-by-minute, day-by-day, and even century-by-century basis. Therefore, market indices will always return to some type of bull market as, once a true low is formed, the market will have a price objective to take out a new high outside of its’ given range – which is an all-time high. Instruments can only functionally fall to zero, whereas they can grow infinitely.
So, why inflate the economy so much?
Deflation is disastrous for central banks and markets as it raises the possibility of producing an overall price objective of zero or negative values. Therefore, under a fractional reserve system with a fiat currency managed by a central bank – the goal of the central bank is to depreciate the currency. The dollar is manipulated constantly with the intention of depreciating its’ value.
Central banks have a goal of continued inflated fiat values. They tend to ordinarily contain it at less than ten percent (10%) per annum in order for the psyche of the general populace to slowly adjust price increases. As such, the markets are divorced from any other logic. Economic policy is the maintenance of human egos, not catering to fundamental analysis. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth is well-known not to be a measure of actual growth or output. It is a measure of increase in dollars processed. Banks seek to produce raising numbers which make society feel like it is growing economically, making people optimistic. To do so, the currency is inflated, though inflation itself does not actually increase growth. When society is optimistic, it spends and engages in business – resulting in actual growth. It also encourages people to take on credit and debts, creating more fictional fiat.
Inflation is necessary for markets to continue to reach new heights, generating positive emotional responses from the populace, encouraging spending, encouraging debt intake, further inflating the currency, and increasing the sale of government bonds. The fiat system only survives by generating more imaginary money on a regular basis.
Bitcoin investors may profit from this by realizing that stock investors as a whole always stand to profit from the market so long as it is managed by a central bank and does not collapse entirely. If those elements are filled, it has an unending price objective to raise to new heights. It also allows us to realize that this response indicates that the higher-ups believe that the economy could crash in entirety, and it may be wise for investors to have multiple well-thought-out exit strategies.

Economic Analysis of Bitcoin

The reason why the Fed is so aggressively inflating the economy is due to fears that it will collapse forever or never rebound. As such, coupled with a global depression, a huge demand will appear for a reserve currency which is fundamentally different than the previous system. Bitcoin, though a currency or asset, is also a market. It also undergoes a constant price-probing process. Unlike traditional markets, Bitcoin has the exact opposite goal. Bitcoin seeks to appreciate in value and not depreciate. This has a quite different affect in that Bitcoin could potentially become worthless and have a price objective of zero.
Bitcoin was created in 2008 by a now famous mysterious figure known as Satoshi Nakamoto and its’ open source code was released in 2009. It was the first decentralized cryptocurrency to utilize a novel protocol known as the blockchain. Up to one megabyte of data may be sent with each transaction. It is decentralized, anonymous, transparent, easy to set-up, and provides myriad other benefits. Bitcoin is not backed up by anything other than its’ own technology.
Bitcoin is can never be expected to collapse as a framework, even were it to become worthless. The stock market has the potential to collapse in entirety, whereas, as long as the internet exists, Bitcoin will be a functional system with a self-authenticating framework. That capacity to persist regardless of the actual price of Bitcoin and the deflationary nature of Bitcoin means that it has something which fiat does not – inherent value.
Bitcoin is based on a distributed database known as the “blockchain.” Blockchains are essentially decentralized virtual ledger books, replete with pages known as “blocks.” Each page in a ledger is composed of paragraph entries, which are the actual transactions in the block.
Blockchains store information in the form of numerical transactions, which are just numbers. We can consider these numbers digital assets, such as Bitcoin. The data in a blockchain is immutable and recorded only by consensus-based algorithms. Bitcoin is cryptographic and all transactions are direct, without intermediary, peer-to-peer.
Bitcoin does not require trust in a central bank. It requires trust on the technology behind it, which is open-source and may be evaluated by anyone at any time. Furthermore, it is impossible to manipulate as doing so would require all of the nodes in the network to be hacked at once – unlike the stock market which is manipulated by the government and “Market Makers”. Bitcoin is also private in that, though the ledge is openly distributed, it is encrypted. Bitcoin’s blockchain has one of the greatest redundancy and information disaster recovery systems ever developed.
Bitcoin has a distributed governance model in that it is controlled by its’ users. There is no need to trust a payment processor or bank, or even to pay fees to such entities. There are also no third-party fees for transaction processing. As the ledge is immutable and transparent it is never possible to change it – the data on the blockchain is permanent. The system is not easily susceptible to attacks as it is widely distributed. Furthermore, as users of Bitcoin have their private keys assigned to their transactions, they are virtually impossible to fake. No lengthy verification, reconciliation, nor clearing process exists with Bitcoin.
Bitcoin is based on a proof-of-work algorithm. Every transaction on the network has an associated mathetical “puzzle”. Computers known as miners compete to solve the complex cryptographic hash algorithm that comprises that puzzle. The solution is proof that the miner engaged in sufficient work. The puzzle is known as a nonce, a number used only once. There is only one major nonce at a time and it issues 12.5 Bitcoin. Once it is solved, the fact that the nonce has been solved is made public.
A block is mined on average of once every ten minutes. However, the blockchain checks every 2,016,000 minutes (approximately four years) if 201,600 blocks were mined. If it was faster, it increases difficulty by half, thereby deflating Bitcoin. If it was slower, it decreases, thereby inflating Bitcoin. It will continue to do this until zero Bitcoin are issued, projected at the year 2140. On the twelfth of May, 2020, the blockchain will halve the amount of Bitcoin issued when each nonce is guessed. When Bitcoin was first created, fifty were issued per block as a reward to miners. 6.25 BTC will be issued from that point on once each nonce is solved.
Unlike fiat, Bitcoin is a deflationary currency. As BTC becomes scarcer, demand for it will increase, also raising the price. In this, BTC is similar to gold. It is predictable in its’ output, unlike the USD, as it is based on a programmed supply. We can predict BTC’s deflation and inflation almost exactly, if not exactly. Only 21 million BTC will ever be produced, unless the entire network concedes to change the protocol – which is highly unlikely.
Some of the drawbacks to BTC include congestion. At peak congestion, it may take an entire day to process a Bitcoin transaction as only three to five transactions may be processed per second. Receiving priority on a payment may cost up to the equivalent of twenty dollars ($20). Bitcoin mining consumes enough energy in one day to power a single-family home for an entire week.

Trading or Investing?

The fundamental divide in trading revolves around the question of market structure. Many feel that the market operates totally randomly and its’ behavior cannot be predicted. For the purposes of this article, we will assume that the market has a structure, but that that structure is not perfect. That market structure naturally generates chart patterns as the market records prices in time. In order to determine when the stock market will crash, causing a major decline in BTC price, we will analyze an instrument, an exchange traded fund, which represents an index, as opposed to a particular stock. The price patterns of the various stocks in an index are effectively smoothed out. In doing so, a more technical picture arises. Perhaps the most popular of these is the SPDR S&P Standard and Poor 500 Exchange Traded Fund ($SPY).
In trading, little to no concern is given about value of underlying asset. We are concerned primarily about liquidity and trading ranges, which are the amount of value fluctuating on a short-term basis, as measured by volatility-implied trading ranges. Fundamental analysis plays a role, however markets often do not react to real-world factors in a logical fashion. Therefore, fundamental analysis is more appropriate for long-term investing.
The fundamental derivatives of a chart are time (x-axis) and price (y-axis). The primary technical indicator is price, as everything else is lagging in the past. Price represents current asking price and incorrectly implementing positions based on price is one of the biggest trading errors.
Markets and currencies ordinarily have noise, their tendency to back-and-fill, which must be filtered out for true pattern recognition. That noise does have a utility, however, in allowing traders second chances to enter favorable positions at slightly less favorable entry points. When you have any market with enough liquidity for historical data to record a pattern, then a structure can be divined. The market probes prices as part of an ongoing price-discovery process. Market technicians must sometimes look outside of the technical realm and use visual inspection to ascertain the relevance of certain patterns, using a qualitative eye that recognizes the underlying quantitative nature
Markets and instruments rise slower than they correct, however they rise much more than they fall. In the same vein, instruments can only fall to having no worth, whereas they could theoretically grow infinitely and have continued to grow over time. Money in a fiat system is illusory. It is a fundamentally synthetic instrument which has no intrinsic value. Hence, the recent seemingly illogical fluctuations in the market.
According to trade theory, the unending purpose of a market or instrument is to create and break price ranges according to the laws of supply and demand. We must determine when to trade based on each market inflection point as defined in price and in time as opposed to abandoning the trend (as the contrarian trading in this sub often does). Time and Price symmetry must be used to be in accordance with the trend. When coupled with a favorable risk to reward ratio, the ability to stay in the market for most of the defined time period, and adherence to risk management rules; the trader has a solid methodology for achieving considerable gains.
We will engage in a longer term market-oriented analysis to avoid any time-focused pressure. The Bitcoin market is open twenty-four-hours a day, so trading may be done when the individual is ready, without any pressing need to be constantly alert. Let alone, we can safely project months in advance with relatively high accuracy. Bitcoin is an asset which an individual can both trade and invest, however this article will be focused on trading due to the wide volatility in BTC prices over the short-term.

Technical Indicator Analysis of Bitcoin

Technical indicators are often considered self-fulfilling prophecies due to mass-market psychology gravitating towards certain common numbers yielded from them. They are also often discounted when it comes to BTC. That means a trader must be especially aware of these numbers as they can prognosticate market movements. Often, they are meaningless in the larger picture of things.
  • Volume – derived from the market itself, it is mostly irrelevant. The major problem with volume for stocks is that the US market open causes tremendous volume surges eradicating any intrinsic volume analysis. This does not occur with BTC, as it is open twenty-four-seven. At major highs and lows, the market is typically anemic. Most traders are not active at terminal discretes (peaks and troughs) because of levels of fear. Volume allows us confidence in time and price symmetry market inflection points, if we observe low volume at a foretold range of values. We can rationalize that an absolute discrete is usually only discovered and anticipated by very few traders. As the general market realizes it, a herd mentality will push the market in the direction favorable to defending it. Volume is also useful for swing trading, as chances for swing’s validity increases if an increase in volume is seen on and after the swing’s activation. Volume is steadily decreasing. Lows and highs are reached when volume is lower.
Therefore, due to the relatively high volume on the 12th of March, we can safely determine that a low for BTC was not reached.
  • VIX – Volatility Index, this technical indicator indicates level of fear by the amount of options-based “insurance” in portfolios. A low VIX environment, less than 20 for the S&P index, indicates a stable market with a possible uptrend. A high VIX, over 20, indicates a possible downtrend. VIX is essentially useless for BTC as BTC-based options do not exist. It allows us to predict the market low for $SPY, which will have an indirect impact on BTC in the short term, likely leading to the yearly low. However, it is equally important to see how VIX is changing over time, if it is decreasing or increasing, as that indicates increasing or decreasing fear. Low volatility allows high leverage without risk or rest. Occasionally, markets do rise with high VIX.
As VIX is unusually high, in the forties, we can be confident that a downtrend for the S&P 500 is imminent.
  • RSI (Relative Strength Index): The most important technical indicator, useful for determining highs and lows when time symmetry is not availing itself. Sometimes analysis of RSI can conflict in different time frames, easiest way to use it is when it is at extremes – either under 30 or over 70. Extremes can be used for filtering highs or lows based on time-and-price window calculations. Highly instructive as to major corrective clues and indicative of continued directional movement. Must determine if longer-term RSI values find support at same values as before. It is currently at 73.56.
  • Secondly, RSI may be used as a high or low filter, to observe the level that short-term RSI reaches in counter-trend corrections. Repetitions based on market movements based on RSI determine how long a trade should be held onto. Once a short term RSI reaches an extreme and stay there, the other RSI’s should gradually reach the same extremes. Once all RSI’s are at extreme highs, a trend confirmation should occur and RSI’s should drop to their midpoint.

Trend Definition Analysis of Bitcoin

Trend definition is highly powerful, cannot be understated. Knowledge of trend logic is enough to be a profitable trader, yet defining a trend is an arduous process. Multiple trends coexist across multiple time frames and across multiple market sectors. Like time structure, it makes the underlying price of the instrument irrelevant. Trend definitions cannot determine the validity of newly formed discretes. Trend becomes apparent when trades based in counter-trend inflection points continue to fail.
Downtrends are defined as an instrument making lower lows and lower highs that are recurrent, additive, qualified swing setups. Downtrends for all instruments are similar, except forex. They are fast and complete much quicker than uptrends. An average downtrend is 18 months, something which we will return to. An uptrend inception occurs when an instrument reaches a point where it fails to make a new low, then that low will be tested. After that, the instrument will either have a deep range retracement or it may take out the low slightly, resulting in a double-bottom. A swing must eventually form.
A simple way to roughly determine trend is to attempt to draw a line from three tops going upwards (uptrend) or a line from three bottoms going downwards (downtrend). It is not possible to correctly draw a downtrend line on the BTC chart, but it is possible to correctly draw an uptrend – indicating that the overall trend is downwards. The only mitigating factor is the impending stock market crash.

Time Symmetry Analysis of Bitcoin

Time is the movement from the past through the present into the future. It is a measurement in quantified intervals. In many ways, our perception of it is a human construct. It is more powerful than price as time may be utilized for a trade regardless of the market inflection point’s price. Were it possible to perfectly understand time, price would be totally irrelevant due to the predictive certainty time affords. Time structure is easier to learn than price, but much more difficult to apply with any accuracy. It is the hardest aspect of trading to learn, but also the most rewarding.
Humans do not have the ability to recognize every time window, however the ability to define market inflection points in terms of time is the single most powerful trading edge. Regardless, price should not be abandoned for time alone. Time structure analysis It is inherently flawed, as such the markets have a fail-safe, which is Price Structure. Even though Time is much more powerful, Price Structure should never be completely ignored. Time is the qualifier for Price and vice versa. Time can fail by tricking traders into counter-trend trading.
Time is a predestined trade quantifier, a filter to slow trades down, as it allows a trader to specifically focus on specific time windows and rest at others. It allows for quantitative measurements to reach deterministic values and is the primary qualifier for trends. Time structure should be utilized before price structure, and it is the primary trade criterion which requires support from price. We can see price structure on a chart, as areas of mathematical support or resistance, but we cannot see time structure.
Time may be used to tell us an exact point in the future where the market will inflect, after Price Theory has been fulfilled. In the present, price objectives based on price theory added to possible future times for market inflection points give us the exact time of market inflection points and price.
Time Structure is repetitions of time or inherent cycles of time, occurring in a methodical way to provide time windows which may be utilized for inflection points. They are not easily recognized and not easily defined by a price chart as measuring and observing time is very exact. Time structure is not a science, yet it does require precise measurements. Nothing is certain or definite. The critical question must be if a particular approach to time structure is currently lucrative or not.
We will measure it in intervals of 180 bars. Our goal is to determine time windows, when the market will react and when we should pay the most attention. By using time repetitions, the fact that market inflection points occurred at some point in the past and should, therefore, reoccur at some point in the future, we should obtain confidence as to when SPY will reach a market inflection point. Time repetitions are essentially the market’s memory. However, simply measuring the time between two points then trying to extrapolate into the future does not work. Measuring time is not the same as defining time repetitions. We will evaluate past sessions for market inflection points, whether discretes, qualified swings, or intra-range. Then records the times that the market has made highs or lows in a comparable time period to the future one seeks to trade in.
What follows is a time Histogram – A grouping of times which appear close together, then segregated based on that closeness. Time is aligned into combined histogram of repetitions and cycles, however cycles are irrelevant on a daily basis. If trading on an hourly basis, do not use hours.
  • Yearly Lows (last seven years): 1/1/13, 4/10/14, 1/15/15, 1/17/16, 1/1/17, 12/15/18, 2/6/19
  • Monthly Mode: 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 4, 12
  • Daily Mode: 1, 1, 6, 10, 15, 15, 17
  • Monthly Lows (for the last year): 3/12/20 (10:00pm), 2/28/20 (7:09am), 1/2/20 (8:09pm), 12/18/19 (8:00am), 11/25/19 (1:00am), 10/24/19 (2:59am), 9/30/19 (2:59am), 8/29,19 (4:00am), 7/17/19 (7:59am), 6/4/19 (5:59pm), 5/1/19 (12:00am), 4/1/19 (12:00am)
  • Daily Lows Mode for those Months: 1, 1, 2, 4, 12, 17, 18, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30
  • Hourly Lows Mode for those Months (Military time): 0100, 0200, 0200, 0400, 0700, 0700, 0800, 1200, 1200, 1700, 2000, 2200
  • Minute Lows Mode for those Months: 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 09, 09, 59, 59, 59, 59
  • Day of the Week Lows (last twenty-six weeks):
Weighted Times are repetitions which appears multiple times within the same list, observed and accentuated once divided into relevant sections of the histogram. They are important in the presently defined trading time period and are similar to a mathematical mode with respect to a series. Phased times are essentially periodical patterns in histograms, though they do not guarantee inflection points
Evaluating the yearly lows, we see that BTC tends to have its lows primarily at the beginning of every year, with a possibility of it being at the end of the year. Following the same methodology, we get the middle of the month as the likeliest day. However, evaluating the monthly lows for the past year, the beginning and end of the month are more likely for lows.
Therefore, we have two primary dates from our histogram.
1/1/21, 1/15/21, and 1/29/21
2:00am, 8:00am, 12:00pm, or 10:00pm
In fact, the high for this year was February the 14th, only thirty days off from our histogram calculations.
The 8.6-Year Armstrong-Princeton Global Economic Confidence model states that 2.15 year intervals occur between corrections, relevant highs and lows. 2.15 years from the all-time peak discrete is February 9, 2020 – a reasonably accurate depiction of the low for this year (which was on 3/12/20). (Taking only the Armstrong model into account, the next high should be Saturday, April 23, 2022). Therefore, the Armstrong model indicates that we have actually bottomed out for the year!
Bear markets cannot exist in perpetuity whereas bull markets can. Bear markets will eventually have price objectives of zero, whereas bull markets can increase to infinity. It can occur for individual market instruments, but not markets as a whole. Since bull markets are defined by low volatility, they also last longer. Once a bull market is indicated, the trader can remain in a long position until a new high is reached, then switch to shorts. The average bear market is eighteen months long, giving us a date of August 19th, 2021 for the end of this bear market – roughly speaking. They cannot be shorter than fifteen months for a central-bank controlled market, which does not apply to Bitcoin. (Otherwise, it would continue until Sunday, September 12, 2021.) However, we should expect Bitcoin to experience its’ exponential growth after the stock market re-enters a bull market.
Terry Laundy’s T-Theory implemented by measuring the time of an indicator from peak to trough, then using that to define a future time window. It is similar to an head-and-shoulders pattern in that it is the process of forming the right side from a synthetic technical indicator. If the indicator is making continued lows, then time is recalculated for defining the right side of the T. The date of the market inflection point may be a price or indicator inflection date, so it is not always exactly useful. It is better to make us aware of possible market inflection points, clustered with other data. It gives us an RSI low of May, 9th 2020.
The Bradley Cycle is coupled with volatility allows start dates for campaigns or put options as insurance in portfolios for stocks. However, it is also useful for predicting market moves instead of terminal dates for discretes. Using dates which correspond to discretes, we can see how those dates correspond with changes in VIX.
Therefore, our timeline looks like:
  • 2/14/20 – yearly high ($10372 USD)
  • 3/12/20 – yearly low thus far ($3858 USD)
  • 5/9/20 – T-Theory true yearly low (BTC between 4863 and 3569)
  • 5/26/20 – hashrate difficulty halvening
  • 11/14/20 – stock market low
  • 1/15/21 – yearly low for BTC, around $8528
  • 8/19/21 – end of stock bear market
  • 11/26/21 – eighteen months from halvening, average peak from halvenings (BTC begins rising from $3000 area to above $23,312)
  • 4/23/22 – all-time high

Jon-Chan and the Summit of Mount Dewnali: The Two Betrayals

As dawn broke, the Neckbeardians woke
In the arid Chadlands were they had rest, to see crags and hills that they must crest
To face the chads, normies and stacys too, their enemies numerous whilst they are a few
All these threats to find their MOM, for her tendies were the bomb
The expedition has grown worn under the scorching sky, their angst at an all time high

"Hey Joey could you walk a lil faster?" asked Hunter "The crags don't offer much room to get around you."
"Sorry bud, I just gotta jot a few things down real quick."
The neckbeardians were travelling single file through the jagged crags of Mount Deadlift, safe away from its steep mountainside. Still, the jagged rocks offered very little room to maneuver, some of the neckbeardians had their rucksack caught on jutting stone or sparse, tough vegetation that managed to survive and grow within the crags.
"Bro, c'mon you can write your lame ass poems later your holding up the line" complained a visibly pissed off Hunter.
Joey turned his back towards Hunter, only to find several of the Beards exhausted and barely holding formation "I'ma say X to doubt bud, besides whats your hurry anyway?"
"I ain't in no hurry fuck you!"
"Right back at you bud" Joey replied without looking back.
"You realize I'm a minor right?"
"Oh! Do you mine coal or Bitcoin?"
"Quit playin asshat!" Hunter then proceeds to adjust his step, so that he can stomp on the back of Joeys boots with every step.
After several blows to his heel, Joey performed a 180 faster than an Nice GuysTM attitude after getting rejected. "Alright listen you little shit-"
"Is there a problem gentlemen?"
Hunter look up past Joey, who also frantically turned around to discover Incelliot Rodger looming over them. "Your outrageous barking and whining could alert our presence to the enemy. I would prefer you fools to be quiet, rather than to attract Chad and his whorish hordes."
Incelliot looks towards the piece of parchment and pen that are in Joeys hands.
"Is this really worth the fuss?"
"Well, maybe not the trouble, but I sure wouldn't say its worthless." Joey replied "A poem can be a wonderful short retelling of our deeds and how we felt, wouldn't you agree?"
Incelliot didn't say a word. Instead he grabbed the parchment and proceeded to tear it into several pieces, discarding it into the dirt. "Now you have nothing, thus you have nothing to cry about". Incelliot turned around to follow the path. "Also, poems are for betas..."
Joey was particularly disheartened, his long nose became a pathway for a single tear as the worlds tiniest violin played. A sympathetic Hunter then patted his annalist friend on the back "Wow, what a dickhead".

Jon-Chan and forward element of neckbeards were perched and laying prone on the edge of a cliffside, scouting the valley below. Several, treacherous mountain ranges walled off the arid, flatland at the belly of the valley. Through their binoculars the neckbeardians could see sparse vegetation and trees, which isn't enough cover from the scorching rays of the sun or the watchful Chadian eyes.
The scouts were bored out of their minds, as they saw nothing in the valley below. One neckbeardian with a greasy ginger neckscruff and an ahegao hoodie (We'll call him...pervbeard) was so bored that he decided to piss in an empty bottled of water and stored it in his hoodie. The bastard reeked of ammonia and hot cheese, the stench cause the other two scouts to recoil and vomit.
Jon-Chan, set down his binoculars to scratch his ass, finding satisfaction in his search and with the disappearance of the itch on his left ass cheek.
"Alright, the coast looks clear. Lets tell everyone that were heading down there".
"Uh Jon I'm not sure going down right now would be a smart idea...we could get spotted by a patrol". said Pervbeard.
"What are you pervbeard, is you a bitch or what? afraid of a few chads?" Jon-Chan decided now would be a good time to put Incelliots lessons to the test. He had to show he was a conqueror.
"N-no Jon-Chan I just don't think we should take any needless risk" Pervbeard stammered.
"If your so afraid of a little risk, then I suggest you tuck tail and go to the back of the marching order! Coward!". Jon-Chan gave Pervbeard an educational slap across the forehead. As pervbeard stood up and fled from the belligerent CWC-born, the two other scouts watched with worry. However, their gazes were averted as Jon-Chan turned towards them yelling at them to get back to their survey.
Jon-Chan felt as if he had more control, more options than he did before. Smacking that scout was refreshing, cathartic. He felt as if so much angst had just disappeared in the moment, when he bruised the neckbeardians head. However, after the slap he felt even more anxious that those others had noticed him. It did feel good to remind them who the CWC-born was. He looked forward to the next time he could put someone in their place.
Incelliot approached shortly after Pervbeard departed "Excellent Jonathon, you showed that cuck what a true gentleman is. For a true gentleman isn't to be questioned be his lessers."
"Yeah he was a cuck isn't he?" Jon-Chan replied skiddishly.
"I suppose we shall be going through the valley? Good, that way we won't have to traverse the crags or the mountain side, we could get to Dewtonia quicker this way as well."

After an hour of resting in the cramped crags and on the cliffs edge, the neckbeardians descended from the cliff side and into the valley below. Upon their arrival the expedition extended themselves immediately, eager to distance themselves from one another and their foul stenches.
Jonathon went to rest under a small tree that was barely taller than himself. Upon nearing the tree, he notice that near the top of the tree grow a rather cumbersome looking black fruit. He circled around the tree to find that odd and large onyx fruits were mare plastic than organic and had the label "Whey" stenciled into them.
"That must be a Whey Tree" said an awestruck Joey "The Chads would migrate for hundreds of miles just to mix and consume the smallest teaspoon of protein power in these things".
"Blegh, just a stupid tree. I bet it taste like ass."
Joey was a little puzzled, but then smirked saying "Are you talking about the tree itself or the"
Jon-Chan sighed at Joey pitiful jokes and was about to make a comment until he was interrupted by a certain gentleman.
"Alright Jonathon, enough time has been wasted. We must move on" demanded Incelliot.
"Wait just a darn tootin minute Rodgers!" Joey objected.
"Ah, the scroll boy who couldn't move faster than a tortoise, is now approaching me with the speed of a train. Finally you have some pep in your step." Incelliot crossed his arms, his face becoming more smug than Pepe.
"Shuddup you jackass! We shouldn't be moving in the open during the day! We're too exposed and we'll likely be dead before we reach Hentaiopolis!"
"Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice that I-... I, you, and everyone else should take. After all, how will you feed the people of Basementia, your loved ones? Or will you let them perish because they lacked the necessary tendies to survive."
"Its likely that none of us will survive if we get ambushed by even one Chad!" Joey hissed, whilst slamming his left fist into his open right hand. "Jon-Chan we can't go do this, we should wait till dark when they can't see us. Please listen to me!"
"NO! NO! NO!" shouted the virgin with rage. "We stick to the plan, we can't just puss out whenever we FEEL scared. Quit being a cuck!".
"Jon-Chan don't be dumb" said Hunter "We really shouldn't take any risk to get to Dewtonia, we have plenty of time before-".
Jon-Chan slapped a Whey Protein fruit from the tree directly into Hunter. Upon impact the plastic fruit shattered and a thick cloud of chocolate protein powder covered the two neckbeardians.
"STOP TRIVIALIZING EVERYTHING I SAY YOU TROLL! STOP ATTACKING ME!"
The whole expedition had their attention towards the incident. It was uncertain as to whether Hunter was crying due to the intense exposure to the protein powder or due to Jons outburst. Jon could see everyone, Joey, Damien, Rebecca, Spearbeard, Thirstbeard, and the rest of his brothers in arms casted gazed of discontent at him.
"You know what Jonathon, the night we fought against those Karens was the night I began to think of you as someone truly special" admitted Joey "You were able let yourself become inviting, vulnerable, and to some extent you cared about your fellow man. But I see that it was a fluke. Your just like all the other people back in Basementia, you could care less about those around you. You just want your tendies, your waifus, and whatever else you can get out of this mission! Its especially evident, now that you are disregarding our safety to finish this as quickly as you can." Joey's face became redder and redder than a beet, with tears dripping down his face. "Fuck you Jon-Chan!".
Jonathon was irate at his loss of controlled. He thought to charge and pummel the Annalist for his disrespect. That was until Spearbeard toppled backwards and spazzed out like an upside-down cockroach on cocaine.
The neckbeards looked around and darted for cover in the sparse foliage. Jon-Chan, Joey, and Incelliot took cover behind a rock next to the incapacitated spearbeard, only to find a syringe with fin stabilizers embedded into spearbeards chest. "Holy shit, its a steroid syringe! Theres a Chad sniper out there!" shouted Thirstbeard.
Out from the crags behind the Neckbeardians came a series of war cries screaming "BRUUUUUUH!!!!!111111".
Several hundred marauding Chads and normies poured out of the crags and from the mountains. You can literally smell the axe body spray as they made their descent. One Chad was using a normie as a makeshift snowboard to descend down the mountain, the normie took selfies of himself as human sports equipment just to tag Chad in his Instagram post.
"Shit what are we gonna do Incelliot!" Jon-Chan asked, only to find Incelliot wasn't next to him, but running away in the opposite direction of the crags. "RUN!"
As the expedition ran, hundreds of steroid syringes and dodge balls rained down upon them from the mountain, striking several of the neckbeardians, killing them instantly.
"Remember" Joey started to say "Always move in a serpentine pattern!"
Some of the neckbeardians did move in a serpentine, only to stumble into one another and be left behind to be annihilated by the chads. "Oops, didn't mean for that to happen".
After a minute of running, the barrage stopped. Jon-Chan turned his head back towards the crags, only to discover several dozen Chads and normies gaining on them.
Pervbeard was the slowest of the herd. He was tackled by an alpha chad wearing a tap-out shirt and shades. Pervbeard managed to give the Chad a swift punch to the dick, yet Chads Magnum dong was as hard as titanium, which crushed pervbeards hand on impact.
In a last ditch effort, Pervbeard pulled out his piss jug from his ahegao shirt and performed Naruto Hand movements, despite his broken hand. The piss jug shook and seconds later erupted in a molten hot fragmentation of urine and plastic, consuming the chad and several approaching normies, ending the lives of all caught in the golden blast.
The Chads were rapidly gaining on the neckbeardians. Those who were lagging stood their ground to fight the Chads, slowing down their advance for their friends to escape. Yet, one by one neckbeardians were dropping like a simps bank account.
After several minutes of running through the valley, Jon-Chan and a cluster of neckbeardians reach the crags on the other side, taking cover within the natural fortification. Jon looked around to find Joey, Hunter, thirstbeard, and Incelliot in his presence. He found no sign of any of the others such as Damien or Rebecca in their midst. Perhaps they had fallen to the Chads.
"We gotta get outta here!" yelled a terrified thirstbeard.
"That horde is just going to hound our ass to wherever we mosey onto!" exclaimed Joey.
"No...not us" Incelliot said "Him"
Incelliot was pointing his fingers at Hunter, who was covered from head to toe in Whey protein powder. "They can track his scent; The Chads lust for protein"
"I can just wash it off!" stammered Hunter, who was already pouring some of his water on the protein powder. The Whey powder coagulated into a semi-solid matter, that stick to the arm and cloak of Hunter. Hunter desperately tried to lick it off, only to discover it foul taste. That Whey fruit was ripe.
"I-I-I can't get it off! Oh no!"
"Its okay bud, we'll try another way" Joey said, trying to calm his friends nerves.
"There's no time, we must leave the boy behind" Incelliot said, drawing his sword.
"WHAT IN TARNATION! Incelliot I know we don't see eye to eye, but that has to be the most cutthroat thing for even the likes of your self!" Joey then drew a blade as well, directing it towards the Supreme Gentleman. "We don't leave our own behind, what kind of world do you live in!?"
Thirstbeard then drew his Katana, raising it in the air, charging at Saint Rodgers with the speed of ten Lightning McQueens. As Thirstbeard neared his opponent, he let out a "TENNO HENTAI! BANZAI!" only to be silence and to be halved be Incelliots own blade.
Incelliot then slashed at Joeys legs, incapacitating the Annallist. Hunter drew a dagger and stabbed the Incel in the chest, right before being cut down by Incelliots sword.
"No- Hunter, Jon-Chan help!" beckoned a weak, bleeding Joey. However, Jon-Chan was frozen, uncertain of what he ought to do.
Incelliot walked in a determined, heavy stride towards Joey and pointed his weapon towards the poor neckbeards face "Welcome to my twisted world".
Joey's breathing seized after the sword was lodged right into his breast, ending the Annalist life. Incelliot then dug into the Annalist rucksack, removing a map to Dewtonia.
"You won't be needing this" Incelliot then turned to Jon-Chan, who was clutching his Sonichu Medallion, staring at the man who killed his friend. I do hope your intent was to not kill me with that. If so, prepare to be disappointed"
"You killed them; You killed my friends!"
"The very same friends who were just about to mutiny and leave your side" retorted the armored incel, chuckling maniacally "You were better off without them slowing you down" Incelliot steadily approached Jon-Chan, his eyes focused upon those of the CWC-born.
"Together we can find MOM, return to Basementia and wage a war against these monsters. Their 'sacrifices' will not be in vain, my friend. We restore neckbeardia and the Incels to their rightful place!"
"I-I can't, not like this Incelliot" Jon-Chan tried to back away, only to find his retreat to be shadowed by Incelliots advances.
"Well, if that is the case. Remember, that the foolish and indecisive will be left behind by history."
Jon-Chan ducked and rolled past Incelliot, grabbing thirstbeards Katana after landing on his feet. As Incelliot charged, Jon-Chan propelled himself towards his enemy like a coiled spring, using his masters training and techniques against him. Incelliots slowly retreated, reacting swiftly to Jon-Chans furious blows. The two were engaging in a fluid and furious dance of sweat, blood, and steel. The two duelist eventually made their way towards the edge of the crags, overlooking another valley in the Deadlift Mountain range.
Jon-Chan managed to land a blow on incelliots armor, causing the incel saint to stumble backwards like a giraffe that was totally plastered on whiskey mixers. This little blow encouraged a daring Jon-Chan to redirect his Katana for an overhead slash. After quick spin to gain the momentum necessary, his final turn ended in agony, his body trembling from an intense pain. He looked down to his abdomen to find a sword lodged six inches deep into his flesh; Blood was trickling out of the wounds like a broken dam. He was tricked, bamboozled, and now he was defeated.
"So long old friend" Incelliot gave his farewell and proceeded to lift his left leg. As he launched his foot into Jon-Chan, the CWC-born grabbed Incelliots leg and swung him over the edge, but not without Incelliot having established a gorilla grip on Jon-Chans Sonichu medallion; His strength yanked the medallion out of Jons neck, yet the force was significant enough to pull Jon-Chan with him. The two then proceeded to plummet to the earth below.

The battered, bloody Jonathon Easton Chandler managed to crawl to a small crevice after his long fall. He could hardly see out of either of his eye, as they too were drenched in a sea of red. He could only crawl like a blind, limp mole to what seemed to be safety. Unfortunately, his resting place was found to be uncomfortable, as he had nary the strength or the help of his friends to prop him up. This left the wounded warrior laying on the ground, struggling to breath, focusing half of his concentration on manual breathing.
He wondered if he had acted quickly, his friends would not have been cut down. He knew that he could have done something, he was to pick sides. Jon-Chans breathing became more faint as time went on. He had continue his struggle to breath for what seemed to be an hour. Time was not easily determined when your sight and much of your feeling and bones were disabled.
There was no going home, there would be no tendies or friends and loved one to welcome him or even now to give him a proper farewell. At least he would die knowing he took out one evil in the world. His vision faded, his sense of touch grew numb, then there was silence.

"Yo come on bro! Gave me the fucking Pads dude!"
"Yo sorry man, Defibs right here"
"Clear this shitz ma guy"
Jon-Chan re-emerged from his silence, with his body full of electric life. "Holy shit, I'm alive" he thought.
His vision returned to normal and for the first time since his 'demise', Jon-Chan was witness to a fearsome sight revealed in the bright lights from above. Looming over the bench press table converted operating table was a 6'1" demi-god with blonde hair shaped like an anvil. The muscles on this remarkable specimen bulged and pulsated with every inhale. And speaking of bulge, it was very noticeable. The beings wore green sweat pants and a red A-shirt, with the word "OUCH! " drawn with chalk. But probably the most fearsome thing was its eyes, a deep blue sea of infinity and uncertain was forcing its way into Jon-Chans soul.
"Hey man, you gonna be okay, just fucking breath my guy. Its been a hot minute." said, or rather shouted the demi-god. "I need you in tip-top shape bro, I still gotta take you to yo MOM."
Jon-Chan was astonished. There was a Chad right in front of him and he hadn't even killed him. "Holy shit!" mouthed Jon-Chan, who was unable to even get the words out.
"BRO, BRO! RELAX! You two are in good hands now man" said the Chad. "I ain't gonna hurt you, now whats your name man"
"Ma name is a-uh-Jon" Jon-Chan was confused by "You two" he looked to the operating table to his right anticipating Incelliot to rest on the table, but was relieved to find Hunter, breathing and alive. He was glad to find one of his friends to have survived.
"Jon?" The Chadritch Horror repeated his answer "Figured you'd have a dorkier name like Ezekiel or Damien, but Jon's cool". There was an awkward silence that hung in the air; Well, it was awkward for Jon-Chan, but the Chad didn't seem unnerved by the quiet at all, almost like it had a lot on its mind in that particular moment.
"Okay bro, We probably shouldn't be doing this but I made a promise to MOM if any of you guys were to return, to take you to her ASAP!" As he said that, a young man wearing wiry frame glasses and a brown and tan rugby shirt, quite similar to Jon-Chans red and blue Classic approached from the darkness behind Hunters table. The young man had an innocent smile and an old-fashioned classical guitar in hand.
"Who-who are you?" asked the CWC-Born.
"The names Chad ThunderCock and this is my bard and faithful friend, Isiah Brandon Anderson. Were here to take you to MOM. You are coming home bro."

Alright you guys, This is the second to last installment of Jon-Chan and the Summit of Mount Dewnali. I will post the final chapter tomorrow, the day before I leave for work. I've been having a lot of fun writing this for you guys and I hope you enjoyed this. Stay alert for the next post and peace out, i'mma get sloshed tonight on whiskey mixers and Smirnoff with the boyz.

"Swap" is Poised for Take-off

How popular is DeFi?
Link, known as the leader of the oracle machine, has increased by 305.19% for the past three months, with an investment return of 17,052%, climbing to the fifth spot in the cryptocurrency ranking list by market value in the short term;
Since its issuance, YFI, which has soared 350 times all the way, has attracted 630 million US dollars of investment in 5 days, and was even dubbed the next Bitcoin in this circle;
From Comp for lending, KNC and BAL, governance tokens for decentralized exchanges, to SNX which is a stable currency payment network, various governance tokens of the DeFi ecosystem have emerged in an endless stream, stirring the blood in the market.
Such a boom is not only reflected in the currency price, but also pushes the brand new DEX based on the AMM (automated market making) model an overnight hit. UniSwap, known as the next-generation casino, has surpassed the world's first-tier centralized exchanges such as Binance, OKex, and Huobi in user activity, daily trading volume, and daily turnover.
With the rapid rise of UniSwap, the DEX threat theory has once again triggered heated discussions among the media and communities in the blockchain industry.
DEX on the Rise
The success of UniSwap is by no means something accidental. As early as 2018 when centralized exchanges suffered the hacker theft one after another, Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum, predicted that the future lay in decentralized exchanges and that Ethereum, by developing a "better" decentralized platform, could empower the cryptocurrency community to regain the dominance from the centralized cryptocurrency exchange.
To realize the decentralized concept of returning to users their asset ownership, geeks in the blockchain industry have made many attempts.
Kyber Network, Bancor, Balancer, 0X, Curvefi, etc. are all DEXs based on Ethereum blocks. For a long time, affected by the performance of Ethereum and cross-chain issues, these DEXs were once stagnant.
With the lessons learned from Ethereum DEX, newcomers to the DEX have focused on high performance, high TPS, and rich assets as the ultimate goal for product development.
Amid the DEX threat theory, major exchanges have deployed their own public chain DEX products in a response to their respective development strategies: Binance launched Binance DEX on its Binance Chain, and Bittrex Exchange unveiled Ethfinex on the Ethereum and EOSfinex on the EOS blockchain, two platforms where users can exchange for fiat currencies; last year, CoinEx officially launched CoinEx Chain, a public chain dedicated to decentralized transactions, followed by CoinEx DEX.
Since the birth of the DEX in the blockchain world, this field has never run out of competition.
By independent development or other’s advantage?
From 2017 when it was established to 2019 as it stabilized, DEX has witnessed its annual trading volume skyrocketing from less than US$5 million to over US$2.5 billion. As DeFi gains fame and grows rapidly, DEX has grown into the most popular source of money, attracting a flood of speculators. In the past month, the trading volume of the global cryptocurrency market DEX has exceeded US$ 4 billion, more than twice the figure across 2019.
In the past two years, despite the increasingly in-depth exploration in the DEX, the cross-chain issue remains a stumbling block in its development path. DEX will not outperform CEX in the trading experience until a cross-chain solution is worked out.
The concept of DeFi went viral in 2019. With the continuous improvement of the DeFi ecosystem, the current Ethereum blockchain has developed into a complete decentralized financial system, covering mortgage lending, interest from deposit, leveraged trading, token exchange, identity authentication, and other infrastructure essential to traditional financial systems.
In addition to the mouth-watering profit, the DeFi ecosystem has also brought along explosive growth in both the type and quantity of digital assets, making DEX a market favorite. Compared with the DEX dedicated to public chains, the Ethereum-based DEX has been equipped with more possible functions and thus become more attractive thanks to the comprehensive supplementary infrastructure on Ethereum.
This also presents DEX pioneers with new opportunities. Dubbed “Swap’s summer”, the summer of 2020 has seen a market rush in Swap development after UniSwap became a hit.
Miniswap, Justswap, and btswap are no more innovative than UniSwap according to their product structures and white papers.
By comparison, OneSwap has injected unique essence into its product design and governance model based on UniSwap's automated market making.
Upgraded UniSwap
OneSwap, which has a double mining model + order book, has received an investment of tens of millions from CoinEx even before the product is launched. It is known that OneSwap is jointly developed by a group of technology geeks who have engaged in the cryptocurrency community for many years. The project was initiated by a member of the team in an attempt to upgrade UniSwap after he experienced the convenient AMM enabled by UniSwap.
Without limit orders, users have to trade in the price set by the platform, which, however, compromised their experience. In addition, the lack of liquidity mining and transaction mining rewards cannot reduce the losses of liquidity providers caused by unilateral market conditions.
"DEX still has much room for perfection, and could even surpass CEX in trading experience"
The OneSwap development team always believes that UniSwap still has a long way to go before it becomes the strongest DEX in the DeFi ecosystem. They have endeavored to, relying on their abundant experience in exchange product development and digital currency trading, create the most powerful DEX product in the DeFi ecosystem based on smart contracts.
OneSwap is called the “upgraded UniSwap” in the community. By the combination of the Constant Product Market Maker (CPMM) model in the Uniswap project and the on-chain order book, it reduces restrictions on users’ trading, and, through its OneSwap Wallet, improves user interaction methods and further enhances their experience in trading and product usage.
OneSwap boasts one-click token issuance and listing essential to DEX. Unlike the listing review mechanism on Binance DEX, the setting of OneSwap is more consistent with the concept of decentralization. Anyone can put his or her good projects and ideas, if any, into practice through OneSwap without permission.
In terms of product design, OneSwap will add to its function menu the Candlestick chart, order form, and depth chart according to user habits, apart from limit orders. These functions will offer OneSwap users an experience as smooth, easy-to-use, and convenient as in the CEX.
A new source of money? A two-pronged platform with transaction mining + liquidity mining
To support on-chain governance, OneSwap will issue a ERC20 governance token called ONES. The total number of ONES remains constant at 100 million, 50% of which will be used as community funds to support the construction of the OneSwap ecosystem and 50% will be owned by the OneSwap team. Community funds can be applied for through on-chain governance. 5% of the part held by the team will be unlocked initially, and the rest will be unlocked at a rate of 5% every six months until all is unlocked after four and a half years.
After the OneSwap product was launched, the OneSwap team will take part of the initially unlocked tokens as airdrop rewards for the open beta. Then OneSwap will officially start liquidity mining and transaction mining, and the governance token ONES will also be simultaneously launched on centralized trading platforms across the world. The first round of mining activities will last for one month, and mining rewards are yet to be made public.
Liquidity mining is a popular way of obtaining governance tokens in the DeFi ecosystem. Well-known DeFi projects including COMP, Cure, and Banner have all enabled liquid mining.
Transaction mining could date back to 2018 when Fcoin grew popular.
The transaction mining model initiated by Fcoin in 2018 once set off a bull market that year, pushing many investors into financial freedom in the rush of transaction mining. In addition, transaction mining based on the DeFi ecosystem is still a blue ocean, which is not common in the current market. The success of OneSwap's double mining model, if possible, would surely start a craze in the cryptocurrency market.
The OneSwap team has not yet announced specific mining rules, but disclosed that it has developed the smart contract code. To ensure the product security, OneSwap will invite three well-known security agencies in the blockchain industry to audit the code and announce the auditing results in early September at the soonest.
Conclusion
DeFi did not rise to fame without reason in 2020. Such overnight popularity is an inevitable result of Ethereum's efforts to build a decentralized consensus mechanism and improve infrastructure in the past few years. Ethereum has almost become the only public chain in the DeFi circle and the only construction base for well-known DEX. If OneSwap succeeds, it means a huge breakthrough for both DeFi and Ethereum, and decentralization in its true sense is around the corner.

Playkey is looking for miners on a commercial basis

We are ready to scale up our decentralized cloud gaming platform and are inviting miners to join us on a commercial basis. Based on our estimations, owners of mining hardware will be able to make up to six times more money from renting out hardware for gaming instead of mining.
Mining crypto currency with GPU farms is no longer as profitable as it used to be. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and other currencies are also falling in popularity. Whattomine.com estimates that a single mining machine can generate up to $15/month, whereas with Playkey once you go through the approval process we would pay you $50/month for a similarly spec’d machine.
This will greatly benefit players, as it allows to lower the gaming latency, especially for the Eastern Russia. We plan to connect miners across Russia as well as other countries, so that players would no longer have to worry about the location of the main data centers.
In order to participate in the commercial testing miners should fill in the application at https://playkey.io/en/miners/. Afterwards, the instructions on how to join will be sent out to the email provided.
How much, when and how you will get paid for renting out your PC:
  1. During the beta stage the reward is $50 per virtual machine (for a 30 day period).
  2. We pay the reward after 30 days of your machine being connected to the service.
  3. The payout options are diverse and you can choose one according to your preferences and legal status. Here are the options:
  1. In order to receive your reward and request a payout, email us at support_[email protected] after 30 days of being connected to Playkey. Use “Payout request” as your email subject.
  2. A stand-alone PC
  3. Minimal requirements:
  1. An 8 Gb flash drive for the initial unfolding
  2. Wired 50 Mb/s or faster Internet connection
  3. HDMI dummy plug or a connected HDMI display.
This is an open beta test, so there is a chance that some unexpected situations may occur. We will work out solutions as we go. After all, we could be the very first decentralized cloud gaming platform that enables users to rent out their hardware and get paid for it. This is a challenging task as much as it is something to be proud of. Let’s figure it out together. Join us!

I ordered myself on the dark web.

I know you’re frowning. The title is weird, I know. But, if you could just give me a moment I'll explain. I'll have to be fast though, I don't know how close they are.

Essentially, I ordered myself on the dark web.

I'm a drug user, I'll admit it. Weed is my usual go to, but I buy that off my friend. If, however, I want to get something a little heavier, like acid, or coke, I'd just order it off the dark web. It's surprisingly simple. A few clicks, some bitcoin transfers and then boom, I have acid in my PO box.

But I'm also a curious guy. The dark web has always... intrigued me. Up until a few days ago, I had only been on there to buy drugs off sites some of my friends gave to me. But, late one night I was sober and at home, which was a rare thing for me. So, since I was bored I decided to boot up my tor browser and try and see what sort of fucked up shit I could find on the dark web. If you've ever been on the dark web, you'll know that you can't just search up "red rooms," or "hitman for hire," and get results. No, you have to find links to these websites first.

So I hopped back onto google again to try and find some links to a messed up website. I know it's weird that I was actively searching for the worst, but as soon as I got on the dark web that night I had a sense of morbid curiosity overcame me. Anyway, I spent a little while trying to find some links. Anything that I found though was either too tame for me, or the links didn't work. At this point, I was about ready to give up, and I wish I had.

But, in one final attempt, I clicked on Reddit. Hoping onto deepweb, I didn't think I would find anything. So, I just scrolled through hot for about half an hour before sorting by new. Then, I found it.

One, simple text post titled: "SLAYERS ASSASSINATION AND LIFE RUINING SERVICES." In the text box in the post was what seemed to be just a random assortment of numbers and letters (zy3dkytcaubkq2y3, for those of you curious ). It took my tired brain a second to figure out what it was, but I realized pretty quickly. It was a link, presumably to a hitman website.

So, I decided to paste the link into my dark web browser and what do you know, it worked. But, before I decided to go any further I figured I should go back to OP's profile to see if they have posted any other dark web links. However, when I went back to the post in question OP's profile was deleted. Weird.

Anyway, I re-opened my dark web tab and hopped onto the site. Up along the top of the website was it's name, SLAYERS ASSASSINATION AND LIFE RUINING SERVICES and next to it what looked to be a skull inside of a crosshair. I chuckled when I saw that, the site must be fake. Upon scrolling down however, I was not disappointed.

There was a paragraph of white text on a black background, and a small box to the right of the text that just said 'place an order.' The text was the main part though, as it took up most of the page. It read:

"Slayers assassinations and life ruining services offers everything from acid attack, crippling, blinding, castration, torture, rape, beatings and good old death. We have the lowest prices out of any other company running similar services, and we are world wide! We have a dedicated and experienced group of staff based all over the world, so if you need someone to be assassinated, or maybe you just want them scarred for life, don't hesitate to contact us!"

Again I laughed. This had to be satire, right? Hell, I was even tempted to order it on someone just to see what would happen. Ironically, I actually have a half-decent job so I can afford to. Better not to risk it though, I thought to myself.

I was about to close my computer and call it for a night when I heard a knock at the door. I live alone, so it was unusual to get visitors, especially so late at night. But, when I opened my door it was just my good buddy Mark, who also happened to be my weed plug.

As I opened the door, he didn't hesitate to let himself in and shove a big baggie full of pot in my face.
"This, dude, if the best shit I've had in a minute, we gotta try some."

I couldn't say no.

Cut to a couple hours later, it's early morning and Mark and I are chilling on my couch, both blazed as fuck. He suddenly decides to get up, and I assume he's going to get some leftover pizza, but he walks over to my desk and computer.

"Slayers assassinations, are you gonna kill someone or something?" he mutters.
"What?" I reply
"Your computer dude, it's got some hacker shit on it."
"It's the dark web man, don't fuck with it."

At this point I'm still on my couch, half asleep and not paying full attention, however I sat up pretty fast when he said the words: "Hey man, lets order a hitman on you."

I hoped up and walked over to my PC. Part of my brain was screaming no, what the fuck are you doing, but the majority of my brain (which was also they high part) was thinking about how funny it would be to order a hitman on myself. So I agree. I do made him get out my chair though, because I didn't want him seeing what my credit card numbers were as I transferred some bitcoin.

At the end, after I wrote down all my personal details, like my address, age, and even a photo, I had to select what I wanted to happen to me. I just selected plain old assassination, as it was actually cheaper than some of the other things. I could have paid an extra couple of grand to be beaten before my death, but even my high brain didn't want to splash the cash too much on my own death. God, this is ridiculous.

Anyway, I placed the order and then replied to a confirmation email, and boom. It was done. A couple of clicks and I had ordered myself on the dark web. Mark and I laughed about it for a while, but then he left about an hour later and I fell asleep not too long after.

I woke up around 9 a.m., which meant I got at least six hours of sleep, even if it felt like I got three. I got up and out of bed, threw on some track pants and a cotton shirt (yes, I sleep naked), and brewed myself a coffee before sitting down to play some games and just. enjoy my Sunday.

You can imagine how shocked I was when I saw that I had ordered my death the previous night.

Even though I thought the site was bullshit I still felt a pit open up in my stomach. Even when I'm high I usually can make sensible decisions. I chuckled, not like I could remember it anyway, but I guess Mark's new shit really was good.

I would assume a normal human being would do something else, but I was still kind of out of it from the night before so I just carried on with my day. I was a little more paranoid, sure, but as I said I just assumed it was bullshit. I even laughed at the email I got from the website, saying that their hitman has been dispatched and was on its way. It was like ordering a package of Amazon, I was tempted to email back and ask for some day delivery.

But I didn't need to ask, because that's exactly what I got. I didn't see it arrive, but around the time I started to cook myself a shitty dinner I noticed a blacked out sedan parked on the other side of the road from my house. I didn't live in a rural area, but there is a lot of trees and bushes between each of the houses on my street, so I would be surprised if any other house saw the car except for mine.

At this point, I was freaking out. What if the site was real? Even though I'm a big guy, I was freaking out. I don't own any weapons, aside from a slightly larger-than-average kitchen knife. Fuck it, I'm confronting it, I decided. I put on a hoodie and slid the knife into the front pocket before waltzing on out of my house and walking right up to the driver side window of the vehicle. Even I was astonished at my own courage.

Knocking on the window, nothing happened. It was... rather anti-climatic, I was fully prepared to have to fight for my life, all because I did something really dumb while I was baked. But, like I said, nothing happened. I even put my head right up to the window, as if there was a reflection, to try and get a better look to see whats inside.

I could barely see what was inside of the car, but all I could make out were two empty seats. No one was even inside. I had got all hyped up for nothing. I decided to wait out by the car for a bit, but after half an hour or so I was hungry and I had to go back inside to take my dinner out of the oven. I swear, it was only a minute between me going inside to take my dinner out of the oven and looking back out of the window, and the car being gone. I didn't even hear it go.

"Guess I'm eating my dinner with all my curtains closed and doors locked," I muttered to myself.

I had just started to calm down when the power shut off. It was sunny outside, and coupled with the car I now knew that this was the real deal. I had signed my own death warrant.

I ran into my upstairs bedroom and locked the door, and then hid under the bed. I couldn't all the cops, what would I say? "Oh yes hello sir, turns out while super high I paid 5k for some anonymous hitman to kill me and now he's arrived, send an officer asap please and thank you."

So, I just stayed hiding under my bed, and I still am now. I've been here for an hour now writing this. Think of this as my epitaph. I know I'm screwed. Just a minute ago I heard my back door slowly creak open. This piece of writing may seem humorous to you, the reader, but in reality as you read this I'm under my bed praying to a god that lost all faith in me years ago to spare me, to let me go.

But I know that won't happen. My bedroom door just opened and I can see a big pair of black boots.

In 2012 a Possessed Couch Told Me To Murder My Friends

Part 1, Part 2
As I walked through the IKEA showroom I felt distressed. I wanted to sit down, I needed to sit down, but all of the couches around me looked like they would cause me severe back pain. They were lit up with fancy lights and smelled faintly of disinfectant, the whole showroom felt like the world’s fanciest hospital. I desperately searched among the rows for something that would make me comfortable, but my search seemed hopeless. I walked around aimlessly, until, as if by divine intervention, I noticed a maintenance room in the corner of the showroom.
As I opened the door a cloud of smoke escaped the abyss that hid beyond. The darkness before me beckoned, ‘Come here Tiger,’ it whispered. I walked into the hallway. The door behind me closed.
As I journeyed through the corridor the smoke grew more intense, but so did my certainty that I would find what I was looking for. At first it was only my footsteps that echoed through the darkness, but as I walked on I could hear a far off radio playing. A familiar song by the Stones grew louder as I approached a room at the end of the hall. Yet the music was soon joined by sobs. Someone was crying.
A fluorescent light bulb crackled in and out of life, yet it was strong enough to illuminate the small room. A dark haired man in a worker’s uniform sat by the edge of a familiar couch as he finished off stitching the last bits of its flowery upholstery. He wept as he pulled out the thread and needle. His face was caked in grime, but the tears created two clear lines down his cheeks. When he saw me he wiped away his tears and got up. The man composed himself, lit a cigarette and walked over to me. He gave the couch one last look, but it wasn’t a look of sorrow, it was a look of pride. The man looked back at the couch as if he had just walked his daughter down the isle. Then he motioned towards it. ‘Come here Tiger, I’ve been waiting for you,’ the couch growled with sex in its tone.
I stepped towards the couch. The electricity in the air was back and stronger than before. ‘I can make your wildest dreams come true Tiger. I can make you believe in a heaven. All you have to do is fuck me.’
I reached out for the couch, all of my nerve endings tingled with anticipation. I was millimeters away from nirvana. The universe had its gaze set on me and was about to reveal all of its secrets but then-
My hand started to shake. It was gentle at first but soon the convulsions spread through my arm. Within moments I was down on the floor, my body throwing itself from side to side uncontrollably. The light bulb grew bright with a deafening scream. The world was crumbling at its axis. POP! The room was plunged into darkness.
“James? James, wake up,” Karl’s shadow stood above me. It was early morning; the room was still dim with dawn. Karl held two cigarettes in his hands, “We should go have a cigarette, friend.”
I was horribly dazed; his words didn’t make a lick of sense. The only thing that seemed understandable was the voice in the back of my head, ‘Don’t listen to him Tiger, he wants to take me away from you. Don’t let him get between our love.’ I stirred on the couch. My fingers were deep in the upholstery. “I don’t feel like smoking right now Karl.”
Karl didn’t move. “James, we have to take the couch outside. It doesn’t belong in this house anymore. You and me should also have a cigarette, we need to talk.”
‘He wants to hurt me Tiger, don’t let him hurt me, do something. He has to be stopped.’ I yawned and tried to look as sleepy as possible but Karl’s eyes stayed on me. “Mind if I nap for like fifteen more minutes?” I asked.
“James,” he started. His voice was cold, “We need to take the couch outside. We need to talk.”
I waited for the voice in my head to tell me what to do but it fell quiet. I was abandoned. “Okay, fine, no better way to start a morning than a bit of furniture moving and a smoke.” I lumbered off of the couch, put on my pants and reached for one end of the couch.
“What’s wrong with your hand?” Karl asked. I looked down. My fingers were covered in a thick layer of red, as if I had spent the whole night eating Cheetos. They were also bloated; my nails looked comically small nestled in between thick puffs of red flesh.
I waited for the couch to tell me what to do, but it still kept quiet. “I dunno, spent a good amount of time outside without gloves,” I finally said. Karl looked over at my other hand, my perfectly normal hand that didn’t spend the night inside of the couch, but he didn’t say anything. We carried the couch outside in silence.
It was oddly warm outside. There were still small piles of snow spread through the yard but the neighborhood looked more like a muddy war zone rather than a winter wonderland. The couch remained silent until we dropped it off in the middle of the backyard. ‘There’s a knife in the kitchen, Tiger,’ it whispered.
Karl lit up his cigarette and offered me the lighter. “I forgot my coat, give me a sec,” I said. I walked back into the apartment to fetch it. I went past the kitchen.
When I walked out of the apartment Karl was standing far off from the couch. He didn’t register me walking out; his attention was purely focused on the mysterious furniture. Something was going on behind those small eyes of his. My bloated hand was shoved deep into the coat of my pocket. ‘You know what to do Tiger,’ the voice whispered, ‘He wants to take me away from you, but you can stop him. Be my hero Tiger, be my hero and I will bring you incomprehensible pleasure.’ I walked towards Karl. I was shaking. “Want to sit?” I finally asked, dragging his attention away from the couch.
Karl motioned towards the lawn chair, “You can sit if you want to.” He lit up my cigarette. ‘One clean cut Tiger, he won’t see it coming, one clean cut through his throat.’ I didn’t sit. Karl’s eyes drifted back towards the couch. “There is something wrong with that couch James,” he started.
“I was nervous yesterday. Maarja’s parents have always been very critical of me. They think I am strange. Whenever I meet them they talk to me like I have escaped from a mental asylum, like there is something wrong with me. But yesterday was different James. Yesterday they made an effort. Maarja’s mother complimented me on my tie and her father was willing to look in my eyes while we talked. During lunch he asked me about my financial plans. I told him about Bitcoin,” Karl smiled, “Maarja’s father became very excited. He heard about crypto-currency from his coworkers, but he did not understand it. I explained it to him. He was so impressed that he asked to see how everything works. He invited himself over to our apartment. Things were going well. I saw him smile. I thought things would continue going well.” Karl paused, his eyes drifted back to the couch. “Things did not go well.”
“When we arrived at the apartment Maarja and her mom stayed outside for a cigarette. I went inside with Maarja’s father to show him the computer rig. He has heard enough about crypto to know that it is going to lift off. I wanted him to see that in a couple of years I would be able to provide for a family. I wanted to ask him if he would… You know…” Karl’s voice dropped to a whisper, “Let me marry his daughter.” He took another puff and shook his head, “But we didn’t get past the living room.”
“As soon as he saw the couch he stopped. He stood there, frozen, looking at the furniture. I tried talking to him but it was as if he didn’t hear me. For almost a minute he stared at the couch and then he jumped on it and started…” Karl trailed off; he looked back at the couch. An expression of utter disbelief danced around his face but he struck it down. Karl looked square into my eyes, “Maarja’s father jumped on the couch and started to hump it.”
Even through the numbness of my fingers I could feel the pointed edge of the kitchen knife. ‘Do it Tiger, do it for me. Don’t let him tell you his lies. Kill the freak. One clean cut. The loud whore inside is still asleep; she’ll be easier to get rid of. Do it Tiger, do it so we can be together forever.’ I cleared my throat, “Humping?” I asked?
“Humping,” Karl replied, “He humped the couch with all his energy. I tried to get him to stop but he wouldn’t listen to a word I said. He just kept on pressing himself against the couch like it was some long lost lover. I left when he started to take off his pants.
“I went outside to get Maarja and her mom. I told them something was wrong with Maarja’s dad and that they needed to come inside right away. At first they didn’t understand, they kept on asking questions. Could they not finish their cigarettes? What was specifically wrong? Why was I so panicked? They were oblivious, but as soon as I mentioned the couch. James, as soon as I mentioned the couch something sparked in Maarja’s mom’s eyes. She ran inside of the apartment, cigarette still in her hand and dragged him out.
“Remember how angry she was when she caught you and Saale the night after the party? Remember how we would joke about how crazy she was about the couch? James, the anger I saw yesterday was nothing compared to that. Maarja’s mother was furious. She slapped and hit Maarja’s dad until he was out of the apartment. She threatened him with divorce. She kicked and punched the man and then locked the door on him so he couldn’t come back.
“She said that Maarja’s dad was obsessed with the couch when they started dating, that the scars on his face are from rubbing against the cushioning. The only way that Maarja’s mom and her grandma managed to get her dad back to normal was by hiding the couch while he went out to do his military service. After he came back he kept on searching for it, he kept on demanding that the couch be returned, but over the years he gave up. That’s why Maarja’s mom wanted us to burn the couch when she saw it. That’s why she demands we burn it now.
“There’s something wrong with that couch James. I sat on it last night while you and Maarja were talking outside. There is something horribly rotten about that couch. As I sat there I could feel it probing in my brain, trying to grab onto something, it was as if the couch was trying to find pain that it could use; pain that it could feed off of. We have to burn it.”
‘SLIT HIS THROAT!’ The voice boomed in my head, ‘SLIT HIS THROAT AND THEN SLIT HER THROAT AND THEN COME TO ME!’ I could feel my arm getting ready. I could already see the blood streaming through his beard. I kept on trying to remind myself that Karl is my friend, that I didn’t want to hurt him, but every fiber of my being was being dragged towards murder. I took a step back. “Can… Can we burn it after New Years?”
“Are you okay?” Karl’s face suddenly turned concerned, “You look pale James.” I took another step backward. ‘A SINGLE SLICE TIGER, HE WON’T SEE IT COMING.’
“I…” my legs turned to jelly, I leaned up against the wall. I wanted to take my hand off the knife, I desperately wanted to be as far away from a weapon as I could be, but my hands refused. Murder jumbled my mind, images of death and pleasure and the couch filled my vision. “I don’t think I’m okay.”
Karl took a step forward. He planted his hand on my shoulder. ‘JUST DO IT YOU COWARD, JUST DO IT! DON’T LET HIM GET IN THE WAY OF OUR LOVE!’ He sighed, “Is this about Saale?”
“Yes,” I found myself saying, “The couch smells like her. I… I’m such a mess Karl. I don’t know how to get over this. I just want to be back. I want to be in high-school again and I want the four of us to be together again and I want to drink every night and…” I realized I was crying again. ‘Coward,’ the voice whispered.
Karl looked at me, visibly feeling awkward. His brow furrowed as he tried to figure out what to say. “We can still drink every night,” he finally said, offering up a weak smile. I couldn’t even manage a smile back. He frowned and thought for a bit more before he spoke again. “James, life is sometimes bad and sometimes it is good. Things will not change, Saale will not come back, but if you wait long enough things will get better. You will forget, you will feel better. I am not good with words, but I am good with waiting. Me and Maarja will wait with you until you are better.”
My hand slipped out of my pocket. It was empty. “Thank you Karl,” I said. ‘You’re a coward,’ the voice reminded me. The pieces started to fall together. The voice, the rat, the dreams, Maarja’s dad; there was something wrong with that couch. It needed to go. Yet there was still a part of me that couldn’t handle seeing it burn. I needed time to prepare. “You’re right about the couch. There’s something off about it but… Could we wait until after midnight to burn it?”
Karl studied me. “Why?”
“It’s silly, I know, but I think getting rid of the place where me and Saale had our first night would be a good start to the New Year, like a way to let things go.” Karl considered this idea for a bit and then nodded. It felt like a burden was lifted.
Maarja joined us outside after a couple of minutes with coffee. The warmth of the cup felt soothing on my irritated skin. Being with the two of them felt soothing to my irritated soul. Suddenly things started to brighten. Saale and me would never be back together, hell, maybe I would never see her again, and that thought stung but while I was in the company of Karl and Maarja it felt manageable. We set up plans for the rest of the day; by the looks of it our last day of 2012 would be filled with walks through old places, kebabs and booze. We sat down in the kitchen for some pre-drinking.
I put the knife where it belonged when no one was looking. The time that it had spent in my pocket felt like a fever dream. Anything related to the couch felt like a distant memory. The whole morning the voice had been silent, as if it had just satiated itself with calling me a coward and decided to abandon me. I returned the favor; even though it was right outside of the window I didn’t look at the couch a single time the entire morning. It was dead to me. In fact, I started to doubt whether it was ever alive to begin with.
Yet as we headed out to town I couldn’t help myself. I looked back at the couch. It stood defiantly in the middle of the backyard, snow and mud all around it. This was not the same dusty couch Karl and me had dragged out of the garage. It was comfy looking, clean, even sleek. As Karl and Maarja walked on I could see the upholstery rumple into a wink. ‘We’re not done Tiger,’ the voice faintly whispered in my mind, ‘Not by a long shot.’ I ignored it and went out with my friends.
We traced through our high-school drinking holes. Tallinn’s nightlife was always shifting around. Waiters and bartenders from Australia would sit at home, save up their money and run into the Baltics to buy a bar. The bar would be a financial trash fire and in under a year they would go broke. Yet the money that the expats blew on their dreams burnt bright, the names and owners of the bars might have changed but the memories that we made within those walls stayed. We went through the shisha bar where I would always celebrate my birthdays, the Karaoke place where Karl blew all of our minds, the hole-in-the-wall where our band had its first gig. We hoped from memory to memory until we ended up in the grand melting pot: Hellhunt park.
By day Hellhunt was a pub with a park terrace. By night Hellhunt was a pub with an adjoining noise complaint. As soon as the terrace closed down teens from every corner of the city would crowd the benches of the park and drink. Even though most of our drinking began at Maarja’s place we would often stumble through here. Hellhunt was the place where our social circle would stretch.
“They will be closing it down soon,” Karl said, looking at the mingling crowd of underage drunks. “Neighbors are complaining about the noise.”
“Screw the neighbors!” Maarja drunkenly yelled at the windows. She was outpacing both of us, it wasn’t even ten o’clock and she was already drunk enough to forget the whole night. “If you don’t like the noise just come outside! Come drink with us!” Maarja yelled her offer to the windows. No one paid attention to her. Yelling was a regular occurrence in Hellhunt.
Maarja stumbled her way over to the bench where Karl and me were sitting and collapsed between us. “You guys hear about Tinder?” That night was the drunkest I had ever seen her.
“Tinder?” I asked.
“It is an application for your phone where you choose strangers to have sex with,” Karl said.
Maarja scoffed so hard she fell on my shoulder. “It’s a love app! It’s where strangers, strangers like James here, find love! What an exciting time to be single, you’re just given a list of people and you go ‘Beep! Boop!’ Next thing you know you’re married!” Maarja lifted her head. She looked in my eyes as an air of utter seriousness and rum drifted off her, “But I swear to god James, if you get married before me I’ll slit your throat.” She burst out into a stream of giggles, managing to spill her drink in the process. “Whoops! Looks like momma needs more jet-fuel.” Maarja staggered up to her feet and started falling down in the direction of the pub.
Karl got up and managed to catch her before she fell over, “I will come with you. James? You want anything?” I still had half a plastic cup of vodka sprite. The two lovebirds went into the pub and left me alone with the crowd.
I started to think about that Tinder thing that Maarja was talking about. Maybe she was right, maybe it was a good time to be single. I was in the country with the highest models per capita, I was a foreigner, I haven’t been in a serious relationship for six months. There was something about having two breakdowns in the past two days that flooded the obsession out of me. I started searching the crowd for someone I would have swiped right on. That’s when I saw her.
She was standing at the edge of a circle of people. Some dude with dreadlocks was telling some story and she was listening. Her hazel eyes drifted around. They caught mine. For a split second we held each other’s gaze. Then Saale broke into a sprint. I ran after her.
The Old Town of Tallinn is a lot less beautiful when you sprint through it. You can’t appreciate the medieval buildings when you’re in a mad dash, the cobbled streets definitely don’t help either. I ran after Saale as the city turned into a blur around me. My head spun as I ran past the buildings; old school field trips, karaoke, drunken trips to McDonalds, all those thoughts rumbled about. Yet above all of them there was one solitary thought that reigned supreme; I had to catch Saale. She ran with comical intensity, bumping into drunken crowds as she tried to get away from. It was as if an animal was chasing her. Seeing that panic in her face whenever she looked behind to see if I was gaining on her started to crack something in me. We ran out from the old town towards the two big malls. Crossing the road Saale nearly got hit by a tram. Something in me broke. I stopped.
The absurdity of it all hit me at once. I was literally chasing her. She didn’t want to talk to me. She wouldn’t talk to me. For a couple minutes I stood still, letting the celebrating crowds walk past me like I was a lamppost. I was wavering between rage and despair. I chose the latter and trudged my way back to Hellhunt.
Karl and Maarja were still sitting on the same bench. He was nursing another beer whilst Maarja was chugging on water insisting that she is just getting hydrated to do more drinking later on. It wasn’t rare to lose your friends at Hellhunt for thirty minutes; they didn’t ask where I disappeared to. They could tell something was off though. I tried to act cool, pretend that everything was fine but it wasn’t. I couldn’t stay there. I needed to go back to Maarja’s and just be alone.
“What? You can’t leaveeee! It’s New Years eveee!” Maarja groaned, she kept on touching my face as if that would put me in a more festive mood.
“Do you want us to come home too? I am sure we can see the fireworks from the back yard,” Karl finally said, “I think Maarja might benefit from lying down.” Maarja protested. She was basically sober after all.
“No I think I need to be alone right now.”
Karl studied me for a bit but finally nodded. “We will be back after the fireworks. There are some games on my computer if you get bored.” I appreciated the sentiment but I wasn’t in a mood for videogames.
Karl gave me the keys and I made my way back to Maarja’s place. I moved past the crowds heading towards the center. I prayed I wouldn’t bump into Saale again.
I rushed past the couch sitting in the backyard. I know couches don’t have eyes but I knew it was watching me. It was silently waiting for me to slip.
There was a half drank bottle of moonshine on the living room floor from our pre-drinking. Just like any nineteen-year-old European boy the prospect of booze to dull my sadness leaped out at me. I tried to wash out the sting of rejection with the alcohol and for a while it helped, it dulled the pain, but the drunker I got the more my eyes started to slide towards the window. The couch just sat out there in the backyard, mud all around it, awaiting execution.
‘I told you we weren’t done’ it whispered, ‘Come outside Tiger.’
I took another pull of moonshine. I realized I needed a cigarette.

Question 2: During the BCH fork to BSV hash war, why do you support BCH? What do you think of the differences between BSV and BCH?
Jiang: First of all, we have to figure out how did some of the key propositions of BSV came about. CSW seems to be the leader of the BSV community, but in fact CSW is just a chess piece. For example, CSW is in name the chief scientist of Nchain, but CSW has no shares in a series of BSV related companies such as Nchain, Coingeek etc. The true boss of BSV and the main backer behind CSW is Calvin Ayre, the casino tycoon.
Zhao Nan wrote two articles, which made the cause and effect of CA's capital layout clear:
"The capital layout of the casino tycoon Calvin Ayre" >>(Chinese)
"The ins and outs of the Calvin Ayre team" >>(Chinese)
Therefore, the ultimate goal of Calvin Ayre is to make money from the Canadian stock market through Coingeek. Coingeek develops its own mining machine, mines itself, controls the chain of BSV, and has the "CSW" as the gimmick, to tell us the story of BSV.

So BCH forks the BSV, which is a step in the entire capital layout of Calvin Ayre. It is not because there is any irreconcilable development direction, but because Coingeek needs to control the BCH. If it cannot be controlled, it will split into a chain that Coingeek can control completely. The whole thing is planned in advance, for example, bitcoinsv.org registration date is July 2, 2018, bitcoinsv.io is August 16, long before CSW began firing shots at ABC team.
CSW’s goal is to split the BSV from the BCH, so he must overstate many of his claims in order to create a split. If he puts forward a reasonable claim and BCH is a rational and pragmatic community, then he can't split. It is important to mention some very extreme claims that the BCH community can't accept, and then incite some community members through extremist claims, just like the Nazis do extreme propaganda and incitement, in order to split from the BCH.

CSW's extreme claims, such as:
1 Super block: BCH advocates large block expansion. What about CSW? He demands to upgrade the oversized block in a short time. The BCH 32MB block is sufficient and does not exceed the network load. CSW exerts that he will upgrade 128MB now. He will not wait till next year, and he intends to upgrade to 2g as well in 2019.
But the result? Don't even talk about 2G, the 100M block has exceeded the current network carrying capacity. After the BSV, because the block is too large, it is too late to spread across the entire network. There have been many deep rollbacks, April 18, 2019. At that time, the 578640 height 128M block resulted in 6 confirmed rollbacks, making the 6 confirmations unreliable.
On April 18, 2019, Beijing time, from 21:00 to 22:00, the deep recombination of up to six blocks occurred in the cobwebs of BSV (block height 578640-578645)

https://preview.redd.it/7winlisnkoc31.png?width=1124&format=png&auto=webp&s=1c766e14d6360f869006b918b3e7d2a25b9b5fe4
According to BitMEX Research, the BSV chain was rolled back by two blocks in the week. One of the orphaned blocks was about 62.6MB in size. This large block may be the cause of the roll back. In addition, BSV plans to launch an upgraded network called Quasar on July 24. The only change to this upgrade is to increase the default block size limit. It is reported that the expansion of block capacity will increase the probability of block reorganization: the large block has not yet been packaged, and multiple small blocks have made the block height overtaking, which will lead to block reorganization or even fork.

2 Lock-up agreement: A chain must stabilize the agreement. The agreement is greatly changed every time. It definitely affects the above development. If CSW proposes a stable agreement, then everyone agrees that he can't split it. What should he do? CSW is even more extreme, and I am going to set the protocol and lock it, even back to the original version of Bitcoin, which is ridiculous.
The environment has changed, and the agreement must change. For example, if the 0.1 version of Bitcoin is perfect, and the 14-day difficulty adjustment is not a defect, the BSV will not remove the BCH “not original” DDA difficulty adjustment algorithm, and switch back to 14 Day difficulty adjustment? Because once the BSV removes the BCH DDA difficulty adjustment algorithm, it will be directly cut and killed by the big calculation.

3 Computing power determines everything: Why does CW have the power to decide everything? Because the extremes did not dominate the community at the time, but CA's coingeek deployed a lot of mining machines to mine, which is very computationally intensive, so he advocated Force to decide everything, of course, he did not know that my calculations were more than him. I will talk about this later.
Because these claims are created for splitting, not natural development, so these claims will be internal contradictions. For example, CSW said that the agreement is to be locked, and that the computing power determines everything. Even decided to increase the total amount of 21 million, then who has the final say?

Why don't I support the development path of BSV? Because these extreme claims of CSW are all for the purpose of splitting, purposefully proposed, whether it is a large block, lock-up agreement, power calculation determines everything, in fact, it can not be implemented, of course, Will not support these extreme claims that can't actually fall.
In addition, these extreme claims will become a heavy liability for the development of BSV in the future. It is necessary to develop according to these extreme claims. In fact, we cannot do this. We must revise these extreme claims. The members of the community who were incited by these extreme claims will definitely not do it. Then, how do you say that BSV is still developing?

Thanks for the taxes. We don't give a fuck about your business

This is an all-too-familiar sentiment from government to Canada's startup (specifically bitcoin-startup) community.
On March 27th, 2020 the Prime Minister proudly announced a $40,000 government backed loan.
"For small businesses, there's a $40,000 loan of which $10,000 will not have to be repaid if they meet certain conditions. There are many things we're doing out there with low interest or no interest loans to help businesses get through this, but the wage subsidy and the Canada Emergency Response Benefit for people who lose their jobs are going to be there to make sure that we come through this strongly." ref
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau holds a news conference while in self-isolation at Rideau Cottage in Ottawa Friday, March 13, 2020. (Fred Chartrand/The Canadian Press)
I, like many small business owners, let out a sigh of relief as we have all seen revenues vanish over the previous weeks following the necessary public health measures put into place. That $40,000 meant one more payroll run. Maybe it made up for the payables or rent that was coming due in 4 days. A $40,000 injection of "worry-about-it-later" money would mean breathing room. The equivalent of a pool noodle while wading in the middle of the ocean. Enough to keep you thinking "you can do this".
Banking is hard to come by as a bitcoin/fintech startup. We are not "welcomed into the traditional banking atmosphere with open arms" regardless of our balance sheets or longevity. Even the bank for Alberta's Entrepreneurs (which promotes their "blockchain friendliness") refuses to work with businesses that touch cryptocurrency.
Hi Adam - hope all is well. What is wrong with the markets and BTC as a safe haven ? You did mention a few months ago that we will see sub $6k soon and I wasn't sure how … well you were right. You are an Oracle.
Regarding banking - When me and [redacted ATB employee] met you, we extended the offer to help out and support your retail banking needs. You decided not to take it. I just heard back from our Compliance team that their Pause extends to all retail accounts as well. Basically, anything that touches crypto / even personal accounts is not supported right now.
Unfortunately, I can't help and I am sorry. Hopefully, if the markets turn positive / and pause is lifted / I can try to seek support for your retail and business needs. For now, it is a full stop.
I am also moving to a new role at ATB this week and not sure who would manage the crypto portfolio. I will keep you looped in.
best,
[redacted ATB employee]
So forget ATB, I thought SURELY the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) would be there to lend a helping hand during this unprecedented economic and health crisis. The fact that our revenue dropped nearly 70% week-over-week with the onset of the pandemic, and the fact that I have paid well into the six figures in provincial and federal taxes last year would mean that, during these hard times, Canada's Small and Medium Sized Business savior wouldn't be as prejudiced. I was wrong. One week after my application went unanswered I was put in touch with a rep through a personal connection of mine. Within minutes a chipper response pinged my inbox:
Hi Adam
Happy to try and help you. Can you send 2 years of Financial statements to me and:
How much do you need?
What are your revenue expectations during and after the crisis - do you have a budget and cashflow projections?
What would be your ball park cash burn rate per month for the next few months/
Thanks - when I get these I will see if it will be me or another colleague that will be able to help and then we will reach out to arrange a zoom chat.
Best,
Moments later, before I could prepare the info, he followed up (even threw in an emoji)
Hi Again - more info below Best

I thought we had it. I thought my country 🇨🇦 was coming to my rescue to help me and my 11-person locally-employed team pay the bills for a few more weeks. Until I received a third follow up…
Hi Adam
I just reached out to our Tech Finance Manager and unfortunately we are unable to Bitcoin clients as our board has deemed them ineligible due to potential money laundering. I am very sorry - this is news to me. Being a Crown Corp we have very strict rules. I think you can still access some Federal support though via some of the links I sent earlier.
Best Wishes to you and yours,
Potential. Money. Laundering.
You'll notice he does not ask for my documentation (FINTRAC Registration as a Money Services Business) which should be the first step to verifying that our business goes above and beyond to prevent the money laundering that they claim to be concerned about. Despite sending him our industry-leading policies and FINTRAC Registration the final response was polite but stern:
Morning - Thx for the info. Policy such as this are from the Board of Dir's and Minister of Industry. But things change - I now have hemp clients. It will take time though. When we get to the other side, I would love to have a beer with you and [redacted personal connection name] and learn more about your biz and future. I personally believe crypto will be a important solution in rebuilding the world economy.
Best,
And that was apparently that. However, you don't get to be one of Canada's leading Bitcoin ATM companies without a little bit of grit and resilience. So I tried again through conventional channels. This time the response was just as useless but even more robotic (you'll notice they spelled my last name wrong…)
Dear Mr. O`Brian,
Thank you for submitting a request for financing. After examination of your application, we regret to inform you that BDC is not able to provide financing for your business.
We understand how deeply the COVID-19 situation is affecting. However, we are unable to respond positively to your request that does not meet the eligibility criteria.
An evolving situation
As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, BDC's response is evolving as well and we are working closely with government, financial institutions and our partners.
Ensure that you have spoken to your primary financial institution to see if they are able to help with financing:
As you may know, additional measures to support entrepreneurs have been announced by the Government of Canada, including anew Canada Emergency Business Account as well as a SME Loan and Guarantee Program. As these programs are not administered by BDC, your primary financial institution is best suited to assess if you may benefit from these relief measures as they get deployed shortly.
For the latest updates by the Government of Canada on COVID-19, visit Resources for Canadian businesses: COVID-19.
Thank you,
This response left me frustrated. How could it not? How could our small, innovative, and incredibly compliant business not be within the "guidelines" set out by Mr Trudeau last week? My response was heated:
This is extremely frustrating.
The fact that I am denied help, despite paying 100s of thousands in taxes, is discouraging. Why do you take my tax money, but then deny my eligibility based on "crown rules". The eligibility criteria of BDC should be companies that are striving to employ local workers with cutting edge business practices and revolutionizing the world. All of which we do (and have been doing for 7 years)
I know you will cite "compliance", and yet refuse to look at my compliance manual. A policy that was written by a previous compliance officer from a schedule 1 "big 5" bank. A policy that has been approved by 2 third party auditors. A policy finalized by my Chief Compliance Officer with 10+ years as a compliance master who has prevented millions of dollars worth of fraud AND played a key role investigating.
It is disappointing to see you promoting the narrative that you are "for entrepreneurs" when in fact I have found it to be quite the opposite. We are a licensed money service business and I personally spend my time working with local authorities educating them how to prevent fraud within this space. Yet somehow I've been labeled "ineligible" for assistance when I really need it. What is the point of innovating? Is "the first guy through the wall gets the bloodiest" really the narrative you support? "Don't think outside the box because we don't like that?"
The prejudice of the BDC towards alternative financial companies is disappointing to say the least.
I would appreciate your response, though if past experience has taught me anything I know better than to expect one.
Perhaps the Canadian business environment is not one that is as friendly as you promote.
Stay healthy,
Adam
As you might have guessed this went unanswered (though the robots did manage to regurgitate the exact same original message) and here we are. My initial sentiment from the most recent response to the BDC remain. What is the point of innovating? Why do I spend tens of thousands of dollars every single year to ensure that our compliance is industry-leading? Why do I spend hours and hours working (for free) with local authorities to educate them about Bitcoin and how to prevent fraud? Why do I stretch my hand out so far only to have it slapped when I am looking for the same support everyone else is getting? I've endured years of prejudice from the traditional banking industry. I've built an incredibly successful business that exclusively employs local labour even though it would be all too "easy" to off-shore the work. We've paid our taxes, donated to the community all without the help of the bank's lending products, but being denied support relief during this unprecedented crisi due to "potential money laundering" is as prejudicial as it gets.
All of this to ask, Mr. Morneau, will these subsidies affect my taxes? I understand the economic cash injection. As a whole, I am onboard with the injection to help stimulate the economy. But we all know who will end up paying for it. We all know that money doesn't grow on trees (it's printed dummy) and that it will eventually have to be paid back in some capacity… which will eventually be through increased taxes. Taxes that hard-working citizens continue to pay every year. If only you knew how much you were contributing to Bitcoin's adoption…
Finally, dear reader, I beg you to think. Listen to my story and ask yourself "is my industry next?" "Can I trust them with my taxes… can I trust them with my money?" I fully believe what I am experiencing is a direct extension of the reason Bitcoin was created. Bitcoin exists to give its owners choice. A choice that doesn't exist with fiat money, printed at will by a centralized body of power. Right now the majority of "industry" is getting help, the government is listening to their people. I am unfortunately in the minority. My business is too edgy. My business is too "risky". My business doesn't deserve help. Will your industry, your business, your pension, your family be next?
